moviebox dv w/ final cut pro.. not working!!!

alright i've had this thing working before when i bought it on my mom's 17 inch powerbook rev c 1.5 gigs of ram back when panther was still out.. and once we upgraded to tiger back in april it hasn't worked. Just to see if it was her system I put it on my new dual core g5 and still same issue. it sees the chipset on the pinnacle moviebox but when i hit play on the vcr (selection is on rca) and then play in final cut pro... no luck. can anyone help me with this?? because pinnacle sure wasn't able to... ugh.

Dual Core 2.3 G5, Mac OS X (10.4.3), 4.5 gigs of RAM, 2 x 400 gig SATA raid 0 , 6600 GT 256meg

i haven't tried trashing preferences for FCP or iMovie ... you guys only said to do QT. Tried creating another user... nope. Don't forget I've tried this on a total of two computers too. And in QT i've tried recording with all other FW devices disconnected and it was set for automatic for video input.. then i plugged in my isight and i was able to choose between DV and iSight and i chose DV and still nothing... i mean it sees the device but still nothing.

Assuming you are doing all the manuevers suggested thus far and your FW cables are OK and firmly plugged in etc. etc. I would like to offer the wild speculation that the material you are playing on your VCR is copy protected and cannot get out of your box into your computer in a detectable format. I've seen this only once with a DV camera being used as a converter and nothing but a blue screen could be seen. I have heard about many converter boxes useless for dealing with material from protected VHS tapes. There were no messages other than the camera or device was connected. This was after upgrade to QT 7.0X or maybe 6.. Not sure. The camera worked before those versions. I hope I am wrong in your case. Have you tried some other video source, such as off the air "free" TV? As already mentioned you must set FCP to Non-controlable device and Basic or some simple FW protocol in the FCP Preferences.

this is not copy protected material... home videos
and videos im doing for people for their christmas
presents to people. im still thinking it is the
quicktime issue cuz it didn't stop working till after
the tiger install. ummm what files should i delete
from fcp and imovie to see if that helps?

Confirm that you removed QT related files, as described in previous posts especially by Captain Mench. Then before you go further trash FCP preferences as has been described numerous times on this Forum. Search is your friend on this. Consult the iMovie Forum for removal of iMovie Preferences. Then reinstall QT and then start up FCP.

I have a Pinnacle movie Box and it works fine with my system
OS-X 10.3.8 FCP 4.5 QT 6.5.2

My guess is your problems are to do with using Tiger with QT 7 with the vers of FCP

but also check the following if you have not done so:

press the reset button on the box

set Firewire as the output and not analogue-press output button untill f/W port indicator is lit

I am having the same identical issue, tried it on a couple of computers, different OSs (10.4.2 and 10.3.7) with different versions of Quicktime (6 and 7), iMovie works fine to capture and also view on television through the MovieBox, FCP does not capture with it or shows image on television (and then I tried iMovie right after and it worked fine)....but for some reason I rather do some of the edits in FCP right now 🙂
