How do I turn Voiceover off Permanently?

I've had this problem once today, I'm a little worried in case it happens again.
I managed to turn it off even though the screen is hard to use when VoiceOver is on, I think I will use the Configure Universal Access button if it happens again as that looks hopeful.
I have a discussion about what happened to me, so if anyone can answer the questions on that, that would be great.

I am having the same annoying random Voice Over (VO) problem on my iPod nano gen 6. It is off both on the iPod and in iTunes configure universal access but the Annoying lady comes on in the middle of a workout for no reason and keeps repeating songs and playlists. I have software version 1.2. I have reset and rebooted numerous times. I have tried turning it off and on on the ipod and itunes but nothing can shut the VO lady up. I am ready to give this unit the boot. Please help before I throw this thing out the window.
Thanks
I have had the same problem. On my ipod nano (SW version 1.2) the voice over has just started coming on again. Same thing happened on an old one. On this one, my settings and configure universal access are ALL set to not have any voice over, but it is still happening. I am now trying a factory reset, and hoping it helps. The voiceover is killing the rhythm of my running! AARGH!!!!!
Having same problem. Have followed all instructions and turned off accessibility features on the nano and iTunes. Still comes on usually when running. Does the motion of running have anything to do with this problem?
I believe the motion of running or shaking is contributing to the issue. It deginitely ruins the rhythm of a workout:( Hopefully they will issue a software update to resolve this problem soon. If anyone finds a solution please post it. Very frustrating...
Hello everybody, I'm from Brazil and my ipod was bought in USA by my brother, who gave me as a travel gift. When this problem started, I tought where I could fix it, then I tried to update the software to 1.2, but it didn't work out. I realized the problem always happenned when I was at the gym, running or doing abs, I mean, doing abruptly moves. I thought it was something related to the earphones, but it wasn't , then I found out this topic here.
I tried to do somtehing a few minutes ago: Go to Settings>Fitness>Spoken Feedback>Off.
Many people here related the problem as happening when running or at the gym, the same as mine, so I guess the Fitness app might influencing on it. Go there and disable the Spoken function, that might be as Female voice by default, and turn it off.
Let's try this and post some result. Hope that helps us all.
I am a first-time (and maybe last time) user of an iPod, a Nano 6th generation. My daughter helped me get it loaded today but was frustrated by the lack of screen response--and 8 hours later--I find that it was due to VoiceOver. VoiceOver?
I was able to turn it off using the VoiceOver Gestures info under "iPod nano (6th generation): How to use VoiceOver" in Apple's Support pages (shown below). For me, steps 1 and 2 worked, but double-tapping "General" only delivered the "About" options. However, the bottom of the Settings list had the option to "Reset Settings" and that gave me a screen that responded as described in the "Start Here" literature that came with the iPod.
To turn off VoiceOver on iPod nano using VoiceOver gestures
same problem here. i have tried everything from restoring to making sure voice over is unclicked on the summary page and the voiceover still comes on every few songs and speaks the list of playlists on my ipod. It's sooooooo annoying when you're running. I'm about to return the **** thing.
this sounds like it might help. I wasn't even aware of the fitness setting. Thanks!
Please enter settings , general, acessibility, , voice over. On the bottom of this screen there are also ( speak hints) . Turn speak hints off. It worked for me. I never slided the screen to the bottom, so I never saw speak hints. On my case it was set to on. Really annoying.
I am on my third nano 6th generation and will not be buying any further apple ipod products. I have had the Voice Over issue on all three of them now and when I take it to the store they act as though they have never heard of such a thing...but I have now found numerous threads where the issues is expressed.
I have turned off voice over, speaking hints and the fitness voice. It does seem to happen due to playing specific songs or during audio books, but I don't think motion is the issue. Sometimes it happens the second I turn it on and others not for an hour in to a long run.
I have had the same problem on 3 nano's as well. I have turned off 'everything' including speaker hints, and have the fitness option off completely. I think this has 'mostly' solved the problem, but occasionally it will happen again. The best I can figure is that there is some combination of button pushes - my theory is turning the volume up or down with several pulse-type pushes instead of one longer push - somehow turns it on. It drives me NUTS when this happens since it goes into a doom loop of reading me the names of all my play lists, totally ruining my run. I have 'fixed' it by turning it fully off then on, and also occasionally by doing a full reset (then checking all of the places they hide voice prompts and turning them off again...).
Solo frustrating but I do love my iPod other than that so haven't thrown it at a wall (yet)...
I am also having this problem with my nano 5th gen. I've had it for about 2 years and only recently have I had the frustrating problem of the voice over RANDOMLY turning on by its self. I use this ipod only at the gym so I thought maybe the sweat had wrecked it somehow, so I am relieved others are experiencing the same issue. However, I have had no luck with this annoying problem and am almost ready to take a hammer to it (very frustrating and distracting to have this constantly coming on during a run)! Despite the voice over being switched 'OFF' every time I check when it comes on, I still try turning the voice over on and off. Usually this works for a short period of time, until recently I got the voice over stuck on and this is even worse because it changes how the touch screen works and then I couldn't get back to main screen to the settings button to turn it off. I had to connect it to my itunes and revert it back to factory settings to get it back to normal. I have also checked under settings in Itunes and the voice over is OFF. So...not sure why it is doing this all the time. I noticed that sometimes when the ipod is playing and the screen is turned off or 'locked' and something touches the screen, the voice over will start. This should not be happening as it is in lock mode. I will see if it comes on by itself today, since I just reverted it back to factory settings and re-synced all my songs (hopefully that helps)..I will report back if it does
Any other suggestions?
I too took mine to the store -- the "genius" assured me the hard reset would work. It didn't. I am seriously considering tossing the darned thing. It works fine in the car -- but not when it is clipped to me. The jostling/touching (cord, sleeve, whatever) does seem to be a factor, making the nano worse than useless for workouts.
Very anoying. My ipod nano keeps randomly turning the Fitness / Spoken Voice on to 'Female' after it is set to 'Off'. This is not the first nano I have had to replace (via apple support) with the same problem over the past 2 - 3 years. I do not understand why this cannot be fixed with a software update. Just fix it peple!
