Notes disappear!!!

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I keep all of my client contacts and notes in Address Book. I've never had a problem with it until the upgrade. Now my notes magically disappear! I can type in a note and sometimes watch it vanish and other times I'll go to another contact and when I return, the note I just entered will be gone.

Anyone with the same problem?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Hi gang, I'm back...

If you remember, in my previous post I "solved" the problem...by buying a new Mac Mini - well aparently it wasn't solved.

The problem's back, here's a few details:

This Mac Mini is never "synced". I had enough problems with MobileMe to make me gun-shy with iCloud so when we got the new Mini we dropped MobileMe and didn't convert to the cloud.

This Mac is also not "synced" with my iPhone. The notes are "copied" to my iPhone. I never sync data back from the phone because it seems to do wierd things with reaccuring appointments in iCal (that's a whole other issue).

I have lots of memory on my hard drive so that can't be the issue.

It doesn't do it all the time, just some times - aaaargh!

This is bad. I decided to use Notes, iCal and Contacts for my business because they're native applications and I assumed they would be rock-solid compared to 3rd party apps, etc.

So much for that theory...

Anyone got anything for us...thanks.

I haven't had a problem with it for over a year, but yes indeed now SOME notes are disappearing on SOME contacts. I notice they disappear from the bottom part of the note...not the entire note..usually the latest entries are the part that's missing.

I am syncing with Plaxo. I'm wondering if any of you have Plaxo that are having the same problem. That's the only thing I can think of that might cause this to happen.

Are any of you who are losing notes sycing with Icloud?

If anyone finds the culprit or the soloution, I'd sure apprecate knowing what it is.

I have sorted my problem...It may help you....my notes were linked to my gmail account....all of the sudden a particular note disappeared from my macbook, imac, iphone, google account....the solution was to select notes from the left panel of the mail and then search for the title of the note.....it is very important to select search for ALL.....i hope it will help you...good luck!

Hi. I saw the same problem happen today for the first time, although it would explain missing notes in the past.

Just to highlight we are dealing specifically with the notes in the Address Book app on macbook laptop, not the notes app on the iPhone/Pad.

The following fixed it for me, so far:

Exporting the address Book contact list file (.abuu) to the desktop.

Delete all groups one by one.

Highlight a contact under All Contacts, press cmd/A to highlight all, hit cmd/Delete to delete all contacts.

Restart.

Import abbu file from desktop.

Once all contacts are reinstalled things worked okey for me.

Thanks Gingahippy...I'm glad it worked for you.

I tried your "solution" with great anticipation, but it did not bring back my missing notes (which I have been forced to save in hardcopy form - but just on certain entries).

Hopefully we never hear back from you, which would indicate your fix stuck.

To recap: I still have information missing and/or disappearing in the "notes" field of the "Contacts" app. You can refer to my previous entries for mored detail on my ongoing issue.

I have Google'd this question many times in many ways over many months and have yet to find an answer - crap!

Disappearing notes is a serious concern as I rely on note entries to file important sometime critical information.

How can it be that I type the date in, type a note and in 3-4 seconds it disappears right in front of my eyes.

Only several select contacts delete my typed entries. Others contracts in notes do not disappear. What is going on?

I iCloud taking the note entries? I went to iCloud and did not see the notes that disappeared. Where are the new note entries. The old ones still exist in notes.

I cannot trust that what I write in notes is going to be there when I need it.

I have used AB to keep track of information for business for decades and rely on the info for sometimes large sales. This is Horrific.

I typically sync AB with my iPhone5 (3200 entries) and have up to date contact information with me when I need it. Now I can not even enter the information in notes on AB on my iMac 10.6.8 computer.

I am extremely upset. I did not think I would have to waste time from my business to figure out how to type an entry into AB. I have much more important work to spend my time on.

I hope it worked for me, I cannot say for sure, that was the only time I have seen this with my own eyes, I may have lost info that I don't know about yet. I did try to replicate this in another address book entry at the same time but couldn't, it was just that one note.

I would really like to hear if anyone finds the genuine cause or solution so please post back here with your findings and keep us all informed.

This kind of thing is really not acceptable, I expect it from a PC, that's why I moved overt to mac, but if Mac does this kind if thing too and cannot offer any help then their product is no longer good for my needs. We are prfessional people paying a lot of money for a high end tool. I think we deserve at least an acknowledgement from Apple that this is recognized and being addressed.

Apple? Anything to add?

Edit: I don't use iCloud to sync so that is not the cause.
