App Store Not Working

I first selected Face time app and hit download. It asks me to enter my Apple ID and password. I do this and it accepts the details fine. It then asks me to confirm billing information by re-entering my password. I do this and the notice closes.

Nothing happens at all. The app is not downloaded, no windows appear or disappear. No files are added to the "Applications" or "Downloads" folder.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

With your account verified, try the following options in order to see if they help fix the issue:

1. Clear the App Store cache
Go to the /username/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/ folder and remove the file called "Cache.db." Then relaunch the App Store and try again. You can also try removing the entire "com.apple.appstore" folder from the caches directory and retry the store.

2. Clear Store preferences
As with other applications, corruption in the store's preferences file may result in odd behavior and may affect functions like logging in. Try going to the /username/Library/Preferences/ folder and remove the file called "com.apple.storeagent.plist." Then relaunch the App Store and try again.

3. Fix permissions
If the first two options do not work, try opening Disk Utility and running a full permissions fix on the boot drive. This should ensure all system files are properly accessible by the system and hopefully correct any error with file access that could be contributing to the problem.

4. Reset all warnings in the iTunes Store
Your Mac App Store account should be your iTunes Store account. Open iTunes and enter the iTunes Store. If you are not signed into your account, sign in. Enter your account by clicking your account name in the upper right up the iTunes Store and review your account. At the bottom of your account information page choose +Reset all warnings for buying and downloading+.

5. Run combo updater
Lastly, if the App Store application or a required system component is corrupted, you should be able to overcome the problem by reinstalling it. Go to the Apple Support Downloads page and get the latest combo updater (currently OS X 10.6.6). Restart the system into Safe Mode by holding the Shift key at boot-up, and then run the downloaded installer when in Safe Mode.

Hi,

Quit the Mac App Store if it's open.

Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab.

Click: Reset warnings and reset cache.

From the menu bar again click Store / View My Account.

Make sure the Security code for your credit card is available. Then from the menu bar click Store / Sign out.

Restart your Mac. Try the MAS again.

I think the key piece of information that solves the problem is the checking (and adding if missing) the credit card security code. All the other 'solutions'- i.e. clearing caches, preferences, etc - did not solve the problem for me. But as soon as I added the security code using iTunes 'View My Account', the Mac App Store started working.

That makes sense, because the bank card is useless to the account without that code because it cannot be charged against. Unfortunately that is not something some of us would not think of because the bank cards in our countries do not have the 3 digit security code. Here in Mexico, cards for solely domestic use do not have the code, only cards that folks would perchance use internationally have it.

I am glad you got it working.
