Music stops when screen turns off after 1.1 update

Hi,
Just after the update, my 6th gen nano won't let music files playing entirely, and i have to restart it every time i change music. This is not a headphone problem (i saw the other thread and it has anything to do with it). This definitely happens when the screen turns off, not when i shut down the ipod.
Can we find a solution for it ? this is the first time i am very disappointed, because its a MAJOR issue.
thanks to anybody for the help

I just got a used Nano from a pawnshop, brought it home and installed the 1.1 update and immediately had problems.Yeah, I could shut it down now,but I was having issues with the earbud(apples)jack not working and the thing would not play a whole song with out going to sleep and the radio could not find the earbuds.I followed all the required steps(resoring, resetting) and was about to tell my husband to take it back to the store.I took OFF the silicone sleeve that I had just purchased for it,and GUESS WHAT, it started working again, just like new. This might not be a fix for everyone, but I hope it helps some of you.So far it is still working fine,a day later!

So...here's my update.

The In-ear Apple headphones are apparently the problem. (The ones with the noice canceling rubber nuns. Not the ones that come with iPods) they work on my iPhone, remote and all. On the Nano...no such luck since the update. I tried cutting the plastic back near the tip...no dice. No remote functionality and the Nano stops as soon as the display fades.

Got an aftermarket remote to plug my other earphones into and it works good but I hate not having the remote near my ear as opposed to near the jack. The original Apple earphones work, but are not so comfortable.

Well, that is interesting.

Just so you know, I happen to have a pair of those exact Apple headsets and it works like a charm on my Nano running the 1.1 software. So we know that yours should work.

Just to be sure, here is a link to the ones I believe you are talking about:

What is really crazy is that you are seeing them work on everything but the nano. If your in-ear headset is 'new-ish' I would take them in to your Apple store and show them that they are not working with your nano. They will likely replace them. If they have a pair of these out of the box, have them plug them in to see if they work. That would tell you for sure what part is causing the problem.

Once again, just to be clear. Everything about the in-ear headsets works. You hear the music, the controls on the wire work... it is just that the music pauses after the screen goes dark. Right?

Had the same problem, tryied many earphones and they all clicked all the way to Nano. Fixed it with cleaning the jack hole (female earphones connector) on Nano. Used alcohol to clean the connectors properly, it took 2 minutes of cleaning and suddenly the remote control of apple earphones started to work again and Nano stopped going to sleep. Yes, there are quite a few folks indicating that they are having this problem. Just look back and see how many posted that the solution was to fully insert the headset. Imagine how many solved it this way and never came back to admit that was the solution!

If your Nano is pausing playback when the screen goes black (If you put your nano down for 60 seconds, the screen will go black - it dims at 30 seconds) it is because it is pausing playback because it does not detect your headset being inserted. This feature was added with the 1.1 update to prevent people from leaving their Nano playing when no headphones were connected.

Now we can have a discussion about why your nano does not sense your headset, but the problem is absolutely, 100% an issue relating to your headset being sensed. If your headset is not sensed, it pauses after 60 seconds... nothing else would cause it to pause in this way other than this. I have talked with folks in the store and the help line and the story has stayed consistent... and it makes sense.

Solutions can range from fully inserting the headset, to making sure the plastic sleeve has not slid down far enough to prevent the headset from being inserted, to cleaning the inside of the connector (In all honesty I can't suggest shoving anything in there other than the headset jack tho!), to removing Nano covers that were blocking full insertion of the headset.

Now it could be there is something wrong with the actual plug in the Nano that is keeping it from being sensed, but that would be the rare case I would think (Bio may be one of those from what he is saying). If you brought one of those to the Apple store and showed them what is going on, I would think a new Nano would be in the cards for you.

I actually don't see this happen.

If I have a paused Nano with a headset plugged into it and it is paused, after a few minutes, it does not turn on.

If that is happening to you, I would guess that something is sending the play command to the Nano. If you are using a headset with buttons on it to play, pause and volume adjust, then it is likely that some moisture is in there and randomly causing the button to activate, which will pause or play depending on whether or not you are currently playing or paused. Try again with a headset that does not have controls (like the ones that came with the Nano).

If it is happening with a headset that does not have controls, it could be that moisture has gotten inside your nano.

Lets assume it is not moisture. Your best bet is going to be recovering the Nano.

Connect to your computer with iTunes running. Hold down the volume up, volume down and sleep buttons at the same time. As soon as iTunes brings up a dialog, release the buttons. If you hold too long, you will have to start over. From there, just follow the directions to recover the Nano. It will ask to download recovery software... just follow the instructions and you should be good.

Once that is all done, try it again.

Whisperer. I'm going to try the "stock" headphones that come with them all first because I think you were more on track about the headphones actually being faulty. All others work ok. So strange. And too bad because the in ear Apple buds are great. I'll see if they'll give me another set of those exact headphones but the aftermarkets are doing the job....but no remote.

ok, i insisted it had nothing to do with the head phones, I was wrong. You cannot use the headphones from your Iphone or ones with the volume controls on the headphones. I purchased a new Ipod Nano for my girlfriend and plugged in her headphones into my ipod and it worked perfect. Use only the headphones that come with the Ipod.

Something is still wrong here.

I have a few apple headsets that I have accumulated. They ALL work with my nano. They include, the ones that came with the nano, the set that came with the first gen iPhone (mic and one button), the in-ear ones (volume up and down and center button on wire) and finally the ones that came with my last gen shuffle that also have controls on the wire but are not "in ear".

These should all work for you as well.

the same exact thing is happening to me with my nano! everything is updated, my battery is full, no sleep timer, i've tried three different sets of headphones (including the ones that came with the ipod), and i've already replaced the ipod once. if i'm not playing around on the ipod, it shuts off after about a minute no matter if i'm listening to the radio or my own music. please help!
