Alternative to Adobe Flash Player for PowerPC G4

I was looking at a web site today and having an issue with the logging out/change profile update for the site. Site said I needed to have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. I took a quick look at the Adobe site, uninstalled the old version of FP, then tried to install an updated version. Then the problems began...can't make any sense of the Abobe site...about all I have been able to figure out is that FP 10 doesn't work on a Power PC. Needless to say, I am a bit frustrated about all this. The web site (HornbyEagles.com) doesn't work; YouTube doesn't work. A.r.g.h.h.h!User uploaded file Anyone have any suggestion (other than a new computer)...perhaps an alternative to FP??? If I need FP 9, which version? Thanks in advance...I'll try almost anything.

I think my question has been answered as best it can be. Adobe is a mess for us using an older mac. My web sites are now running on whatever plugins have made there way into my computer. Limnos, thanks for all the info, but install/uninstall/check permissions...even reboot...it all spooked me. Since everything seems to be running, I'll consider myself 'fixed.'

The Flash version for PPC version 10.1.102.64 (is
now available from an archive page/link at Adobe)
does work OK for most flash items in web pages.

Mine returned to a functional mode. Also, I checked
& got the Firefox download for latest 3.6.15 browser.

{However, there still is an issue in Shockwave test
page's animation not working; and mine is the last
supported version 11.5.9.620 for PPC. Seemed to
work OK in Leopard 10.5.8; not in Tiger 10.4.11...
but both of these did last week.}

I really don't want to upgrade my iMac G4 1.25 to
Leopard 10.5.8; though I have an extra unused
retail DVD install disc still in the box.

Maybe the Shockwave player will return to functional
state the next time I restart my computer. In a month.
It's only been on 102 days this time, up 170 last time.

+Nice to know you do have a semblance of flash, btw.+

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

I have an iBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.11 I got for my daughter and I tried to install Adobe Flash Player and this is the message I get. "Devices with PowerPC processors are no longer supported. Click below to download the last version of Flash Player for PowerPC."

Other forums stated that Flash player 10.1 will work for my OS, but I can't find it. Any one know where I can get it?

Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Note that the latest Flash Player update only works with Safari in 32 bit mode, as Adobe have not written it for 64 bit mode.

* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html

The 'archived' version is not something directly or easily available; but
then few were really easy in their finest hour...

A link to get the last supported PPC version of Flash (for OS X 10.4/10.5)
is listed in a previous post, above. The link is:

*Archived Flash Player versions:*
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

Release and Content Debugger archives;
of several listed; 10.1 is here, latest version:

• (Released 11/04/2010) Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and 9.0.289.0 (126 MB)
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp10.1.102.64_and_9.0.289.0archive.zip - *same as Limnos posted, above.*

{You +probably could use+ the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 installer; and an uninstaller.
The .zip file has both Flash versions and a debugger version in there. A standard
version 10.1.102.64 would be the one to install; +unless your computer can't use it.+
Then, try the other one; _or see the earlier link to choose_ a different archive .zip file.}

PPC Macs running Leopard 10.5.8 may handle the Flash player issue differently;
but the same archives for PowerPC are the likely source for Flash player plugins.
You can also choose to disable Flash in web pages, and enable the feature where
then you'd click on each vacant spot in a page, to try & get Flash content to load.

Among the previous posts, there are various points of discussion about this problem;
not all are intended as direct answers, since the download is archived & hidden now.
The plugins I have that work, were downloaded in November, & more directly then.

+{Seems that much of the original Adobe flash web site is not helpful now for PPC Mac.}+

Hello, and Merry Christmas to all of you. I'm a PowerBook G4 user and today when trying to watch a movie a window told me to upgrade my flash. I went then to the adobe page and tried to follow the steps they suggested -I downloaded the uninstall software for OS X 10.4- but curiously (I've never tried to do that before) I couldn't open any window nor the flash player install manager window.

Do you know what should I do?

There is a version of Flash 10.3 they propose.... OMG, I just read is for intel machines! I'll nevertheless send this message.

I can think of some bad words to explain how I feel. I guess I'll be a misfit from now on, I won't let aside my pretty G4!

Happy 2012

Having the same problem. I'm in the midst of reinstalling FP10.1. Went through the same problem. I uninstalled, installed and did permissions using Onyx instead of DU. Went to Hulu and it wouldn't let me watch a movie. Same with Cackle.com. I tried YouTube and it seems to work ok. Also checked both Safari and FF prefs and there is no FP Plugin listed in either one. This time I downloaded from OldAps. I skipped the uninstall and installed, restarted and am now verifying disk and permissions with DU.

Verify is now done. I can stream movies for now anyway. We'll see what happens on my next restart.

Not quite. I have Flash Player installed as a plug-in (10.1 in Library/Internet Plug-ins); also I have the free Perian Preference pane downloaded. Though I cannot play embedded YouTube videos in Facebook, I can click the link next to them and view videos directly in YouTube. I can't use 4OD but I can use BBC iPlayer.

It's a mixed bag, but don't give up just yet. For me YouTube and iPlayer are the sites that count, and I can use both.
