Since you have BlueTooth enabled on your iPad, I'd say you are using a compatible BlueTooth GPS device with .

The Dual GPS Status Tool app does that and more.
Okay. Thanks for the info. I do not think the Apple GPS hardware provides that level of satellite detail by itself. You need the 3rd party external module to get this information.
I meant to post a link to this MacWorld article before. Sorry if it has already been posted earlier in this thread:

The tech specs page shows no GPS on the Wifi model, is this true? If so that is absolutely ridiculous, why would they leave out the GPS from the WiFi model???
Hi antiguangenius, can you please advise the program that you are using?

Chris and Rich: Thanks for the information on the Bluetooth GPS receivers.
The wifi only iPad can pick up locations of wifi spots around town, even if you do not have an actual internet connection.
A-GPS is used by any map/GPS app on the iPad, not just Google Maps.
"A-GPS is used by any map/GPS app on the iPad, not just Google Maps."
Very incorrect.
Only Google Maps has access to A-GPS.
You do know that all A-GPS means is the chip uses cell tower locations to quickly get an approximate location before locking on to sufficient satellites to use them?
@holoduke
On non GPS iPads, the A-GPS simulates a GPS signal.
So on units with WiFi only, the app thinks its getting sateliite, but it's really only getting a simulation from the A-GPS.
I am thinking that the cell phone info is getting passed from his phone to the iPad while tethered.
The low power mode usually uses only 3 satellites while newer devices can use 5, which may drain power quicker. My social network apps on the iPhone get the same accuracy as Google maps.
