Why? Because some people have ADD and need the next shiny thing?

{quote:title=Bone Idol wrote:}All that's really happened in the last 2 years are a set of incremental updates and a port to 64-bit. Logic is still a great platform, but its effectively stuck where it was in version 7. The core virtual instruments haven't changed in years, other than becoming surround capable and 64 bit. EXS-24 used to be actually quite cutting edge, but now? {quote}

But now what? The other DAWs have all new virtual instruments? No.

Third party AUs stopped working in Logic? No.

So?

No, we're looking to reliable capture our inspiration.

Only dabblers and dilettantes "constantly look out for new tools"...

Heh... always has been? Virtual Instruments, MIDI editing??

All that stuff is relatively new and was dissed when it came out, or was labeled a gimmick.

How about a set of good mics and knowing what you're doing.

BTW, the built-in Melodyne type editing in Cubase is extremely well done and useful, and doesn't cost any extra. In the end it's how you use the tools that matters.

After years of work, Logic has become transparent to me. If something doesn't sound good enough, or interesting enough, it's because of me, not the software. Most of my work is done in front of my MIDI keyboard, or humming, or thinking about new ideas, or listening to other people's music, or editing automation curves. The only problem I have with Logic 9 is the 32-bit AU bridge (which actually does fine, mostly). Everything I'd like to do can be done is less than two seconds. IMHO it's reached a point similar to Microsoft Word — there's really nothing more that's needed, unless it's for getting new customers, and this is a different debate entirely.

Sure, I could make a long list of feature requests. Every serious composer could write a dozen of those in a minute. But in all honesty this piece of software has been rock-solid for a year, always doing what you expect it to do, with one or two surprises due to human error which were always interesting, musically. That's all I need this software to do, really.

Can you imagine asking for a two-year upgrade cycle for a pen and a notepad? The only real obstacles to creativity which I see right now are the CPU and the I/O access and transfer speeds (and SSDs still being expensive). But this has nothing at all to do with Logic.

Just my 2c.

+1. Perfectly stated. Apart from fixing the stupid Stereo Output thing (see countless other threads), there really isn't much more I want from Logic, except for it to keep working.

For the most part, the issues with Logic aren't about not sounding good enough, it's aspects of the software that are cumbersome (or flat out don't work) and waste time that could be otherwise spent actually making music.

No question the software in its current state is for the most part very usable and great things can be done with it, but there's no question that there are things that are issues and improving them could save tons of time for users.
