Ya I know they've had a melodyne type editor, even though I left to come over to Logic, I still followed along, since it would be farily inexpensive to upgrade if i chose to. This is the actual melodyne integrated into the DAW using their newly developed (with PreSonus) ARA technology, did you check out the vid? Melodyne essential comes packeaged with the pro version of the software.

This along with their workflow and the rest of the new features has just catapulted them into the lead in my opinion. I worked in Cubase from before they had audio when it was just a midi sequencer, switched to Logic 4 years ago when I made the move to Mac. This interface is so easy to use that you can watch a few videos from the website and spend a couple of hours in it and become pretty proficient in a really short amount of time. I know lots pretty much all sequencers have groove quantizing but with the new release of Studio One its as simple as dragging the desired track ie; Kick drum into the quantize window, then just select the tracks you want to quantize to that groove and click Q, audio or midi doesn't matter, it will quantize to the groove.

All the editing and features have been made to work that simply and easily, it's all drag and drop and it's all there. It seems so complete to me that I can't even imagine at this point what they can aspire to for version 3, I'm sure if I work in it long enough I may be able to think of something but pretty much everything is there.

Perhaps, I only require decent midi functionality so if it suits my needs in that regard I'm happy. That said, this is only version 2 and the major releases and interim releases appear to come at a pretty quick pace. They also seem to listen to the feature requests of users to guide them. If midi is the only place they are behind then I imagine that will the gap they fill in next.

This may not be for everyone and I'm not trying to preach here, just thought I would point it out cause it is worth a look. If you're tired of no info, for 2+ years and never knowing if anyone is paying attention to user needs like I am then there are choices out there. The price is only twice what you would expect to pay for the next major Logic upgrade.

Logic served me very well over the last 4 years, I actually thought it was quite fun to use, no ill will towards the program and especially not to the members on this forum who have been quite helpful. It's still a good product as are all the major players they all have their strong points. I just wanted to point this out for those who are ready for something new and cool.

my first reaction to your post was "Is advertising allowed here? 😀

Then I took a look... and I liked what I saw. A lot!. Anyway I'd wait. It's impressive but I don't know if I like the idea to learn another non standard (PT being "the standard") sequencer that may or may not deliver for me. I really hope the technology is implemented in Logic or PT which if the fears here about Logic X become true, will be my destination.

Ya I know, I guess I should apologize for my enthusiasm. I really didn't even have a clue that this other DAW even existed two weeks ago. After waiting and waiting for a Logic update that would with any luck bring some of the features that I missed when I left Cubase, I started exploring my options. To be honest when I swtiched to Logic I found there were, and still are, a lot things I liked about it better than Cubase. So I apologize if I sound like a fan boy, I'm just happy that I don't have to wait anymore to have all the features that I want and need in a single DAW. The fact is, if Apple wasn't so slow and secretive I probably wouldn't have gone looking elsewhere in the first place. I just thought I would throw it out there, I know I'm not the only one who is frustrated and this platform is familiar enough and feature packed enough to be a great alternative even for die hard Logic fans. Take it for what it's worth ,or not. I've gotten a lot of help off these forums over the last few years so I'm just bringing the info.

I've had my eye on Studio One for quite sometime. I have to agree, Studio One looks to have the most potential for a complete DAW. However, I stuck by Logic through far worse than fearing a crappy update. Matter of fact, all the updates have been crappy. I stick by it because I know it, and I have too many **** projects with it. Besides, it never truly stopped me from creating music. I'll give you this though, the pastures are certainly looking greener elsewhere. I'll gladly wait for the new update, and expect what I have always received: a buggy update that breaks more things than it fixed. That's the Logic life. I toughed it out years ago. By the way, I can't deny that Studio One is in contention for the wave of the future. Time will tell.

LGK

ProTools 10 already??? Took a quick look... new features were nice but didnt see any must have features, maybe some new instruments might have enticed me. I also checked out Studio One 2.0 yesterday (didnt try the demo, just watched the videos and what not) I tried Studio one 1.0 when it came out and it just never seemed to see my audio interface.... not even my built in audio, just kept getting a message that said ' Audio failed to start correctly before.Do you want to try again?" Then I try again and get "Please check your hardware configuration and try again" This was from the demo version from their site. So I cant even comment on how it works versus Logic since it never actualy worked for me.

Having said that, Logic, Reason or any of my stand alone instruments has any issues seeing my Audio interface

(Which is by no means a top of the line interface, its an Alesis Multimix 8 firewire, but it sounds good to me get the job done) but on top of it It Studio One gave me drama trying to use my built in audio so it was an instant turn off for me.

Logic is still the best DAW over here

I think I would have found Studio One 1.0 far too lacking in features so you may not have really thought it was worth it even if you had gotten it to work. 1.6.5 was much better but still lacking, at least it let you know they were on track and working hard to catch up. Starting from the ground up must be a huge task.

If you really were having trouble you could go on the forums or check with their support. V2.0 just came out on Tuesday, there were a few threads on the forums where guys were discussing some possible bugs. This morning only 3 days later they already have an update build rectifying the issues, one of them being that on some machines, S1 wasn't recognizing the version of Melodyn installed (it worked no problem on most machines). When have you seen that kind of quick response in a DAW? That's what I find refreshing, and it leads me to believe if you let them know, they could have fixed the issue. Who knows maybe it's fixed by now anyway, I'm sure you aren't the only one using that interface. For me personally if I don't have my interface connected any computer I have used reverts to the internal audio interface, I think that's in the OS, point being if it couldn't see your interface it's going to default to the internal.

Anyway, lot's of exciting stuff going on in the DAW world. I think Logic 10 should be killer hopefully you will all find out soon, I'm still interested in seeing what it brings. It's probably still the best if you are mainly doing sequenced synth heavy hip hop, dance, trance type music.
