Sony HDR-TD10 and MVC Formatting

Is anyone here familiar with the new Sony MVC / 3D format? I am unable to find anything specific in the discussions or via an Internet search. It is my understanding that the new Sony HDR-TD10 records in this format, and the software
(PMB / 3D) is not supported in Mac OS X. I am aware of the formats as they apply to 2D, but not 3D, to avoid any confusion.

Does anyone know if the 3D footage can even be downloaded and stored (not edited) via Final Cut Pro for possible future editing when a conversion or editing solution becomes available?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Randy,

Its been a year but finally had a chance to try capturing S3D from the TD10 with the black magic Decklink Extreme 3D+ to an eSATA raid drive (tested at 200 mb/s read and write) . capture and camera settings match the camera in BM system prefs and Media Express prefs...but the captured material is speeded up, strange image flipping as though the interlace is backwards, and occasional fine green lines appearing through the image. I noticed that in the Media express preview window, the preview image (when the camera is stopped) even shows wierd line movement in the image and green lines appearing occassionally. All a mystery and frustrating as still no luck ion capturing S3D off the td10. Have you had such problems, any idea of a work around? The fact i am seeing these effects in the preview window when not capturing implies it is not bandwidth problem. Also, the cable i am using off the td10 is hdmi that came with the cammera and works flawlessly in sending 3D signal to 3D plasma tv.

I have since been experimenting with capture settings, setting the camera at 1080p output, and I have lost preview completely (I would set the capture settings in Media Express and BM prefs to match). Now i cannot get an image even when i revert to original settings!

mystery! ever run into this with the decklink extreme?

cheers

One year after, a pure Mac solution exist : this Pavtube converter can at last output 3D format (SBS or TB) in .mov (HD)

Time saving is enormous. But quality is not exactly the same. Here is the message I send to Pavtube :

This news seem really very exciting at first : we are numerous owners of 3D camcorders like the excellent Sony HDR TD-10 and of a Apple computer. No pure Mac solution at this time to edit 3D footage. I use Sony Vegas pro (with Parallels Desktop) to make masters and transfer them to Final Cut Pro in .mxf format (codec ProRes 422). Long process. How happy to discover that Pavtube 3D MTS Converter for Mac can at last output 3D format (SBS or UP) that I can import directly into FCP.

Alas, the 3D format seems not to use the ProRes 422 codec. I don't understand why, as it is in the choices pour FCP output (but no possibility of keeping the 3D there). When I compare the final .mov(s) from FCP, the quality differs clearly between the one made with Pavtube footage and the one with Vegas Pro footage.

You're just a step to the perfect software pour Mac 3D video enthusiasts ! I will easily double my buying price pour this one.

I also tested the Pavtube converter. But this app is a cheek, because it is a fake!!! It don't really convert the 3D MVC content to a SBS or anaglyph 3D file. It only read the leading-eye (commonly the left) of the MVC file and convert it to a fake 3D like 3D-TVs do it with their 2D to 3D conversion!!!

You can check it while you choose a clip which is only shoot in 2D. Pavtube will convert it in "3D" like the S3D MVC clips! This explains also the bad (3D) quality of it! And the "Depth" slider makes also no sense if it would convert the native MVC content!

Besides there is also missing a deinterlace feature!
