new macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

I´ve bought a MBP 2011 i7 13'' two week ago and i got the same problems since the second software update; airport goes outline by itself everytime. Should i give back to the store this ****** laptop?

meanwhile, i even suspect that with the install of itunes 10.2.1 these problems might have started, even though this doesn´t sound very obvious. on the day, i got my mbp, itunes 10.2 was released and i installed it. everything was right for like a week. then itunes 10.2.1 came a long with undocumentated "fixes" and the troubles started. now seeing the other topic about the private sharing problems, which are also wlan related, i´m getting quite sure these issues are related. at least i´m getting convinced that either a software- or a firmwareupdate might solve these problems. and if these issues are related the chances that apple comes up with a fix quite soon are raising.

When I posted my test and showed this few days after the macbooks came out every one said I was crazy........

There is something wrong with the way hardware is handling the signal I hope. I hope its a software driver issue and not the position or interference to the antennas.....

I have been asking for a while now, but can anyone open terminal start a ping to the gateway and then transfer a file to the Macbook and see what happens ?

btw. i have the antiglare display-version and this display happens to be enclosed by a nice looking aluframe (didn´t know before) as opposed to the glossie´s black piano finish frame which is probably a kind of plastic. are some of the people suffering from this issue are having the glossy displays? just to rule out the possibility that this is an antiglare issue due to the aluminium frame.
my girl has a 4 years old white macbook (plastic) and it runs at 23Mbit while i´m at the same time stucking at down to 500kbit.

Have been having performance issues with my new 2011 i7 17". Pinging my router via the airport card yields numbers all over the place, from 4ms to 104ms, averaging (usually) 50ms. My 2009 MBP siting right next to it gets a consistent 1.5ms. Running speedtest.net the 2009 gets a consistent 25mbps (FIOS), while the 2011 gets about 5.5mbps. Took it to the Genius bar, and they duplicated the results, and gave me a new system. Should have tested it before I left, though, as it seems to have the identical problem, though now I am beginning to wonder what else it could be. The fact that my 2009 (still have it) with the identical software is 5x faster confuses me....

I hate to be that guy, but I feel better now that its not just me..... I keep asking for some one to do 1 simple test and people keep ignoring me.

I am ONLY having this issue in Windows 7 btw... It works like a dream in OS X... But Windows 7 is where I play all of my awesome games on perfect settings... So I would like to see this wireless issue resolved

I think if we all complain to apple about this issue they will have to do something... Like I said before we can all only hope this is strictly a firmware level fix... If not some of us are screwed... I have Applecare so not me most likely....

Went to the Genius bar yesterday, and they (just like the Genius in Kansas City) easily reproduced the ping inconsistency. The wired connection showed fast consistent pings, the wireless all over the planet. They gave me a new machine, but when I got home and unboxed it the network performance is unchanged. I have an external super-duper backup, and later today will boot from that on both my 2009 and 2011 and do a side by side test with identical software.

there are at least three threads now dealing with this same issue.
can we subscribe to any hotfix-urgent-list?

Same here, just got my MPB yesterday. Everything is up-to-date.

Wireless seems to work fine under MacOS however when running Windows 7 (bootcamp), I am unable to establish a wireless connection unless sitting in the same room as the router.

Has anyone experienced this particular problem?

Any help/advice appreciated.

Really bad NIC issue ...

I got my 2011 customized 15" MacBook Pro (quad - i7) a week back .. everything updated. It fails to connect to WiFi hotspots everywhere, I'm travelling, and it won't connect properly at Starbucks, McD or even the WiFi at my hotel ... sometimes it would connect (when I'm literally next to the base) but the connection drops if I move like 5 feet.

I also carry around a 4 year old laptop and my iPhone and they connect without issues ... even when there are like half signals, but my MBP fails at the same spot. Even when I get connectivity (which I do sometimes) it disconnects.

I have both Mac OS and Windows on bootcamp ... and they both have the same issue.

I called appleCare and they told me to take it to a service center, that I did ... they ran the diagnostics on it twice and told me there are no hardware issues with the MBP. And told me that Apple does not support certain encryption technologies so I would have issues in some places, I told him that it fails in Windows too and works on my iPhone. 2 trips to the apple service center and the problem is still there !

AppleCare does'nt seem to be aware of the issue on the new 2011 models, and I'm not sure what to do next ... I'm working on my 4 year old laptop with a $3000 brand new MBP sitting in front that won't connect.

I hope Apple realizes that this is a real issue and puts up a fix for it .... otherwise its not even as good as my 4 year old laptop. 😟 .... very very frustrating !

I have recently purchased a the new 13" pro and I am also experiencing the same issues. My iPhone and other windows PC's in my house connect fine!

A lousy solution to the problem is to use a $25 USB WiFi dongle and use that to connect to WiFi hotspots ... and this goes to show that its not an OS or encryption type (WEP, WPA, WPA2) issue as the Apple service center suggested.

The dongle works in both Windows and Mac OS ... the so called state of the art broadcom 4331 802.11n wireless chipset that the new 2011 MBPs have won't work and a $25 dongle would ! ...

Such a shame that I have to attach a USB dongle to my $3000 MBP because the MBP WiFi won't work and none of the so-called apple service centers could help 😟 !

I'm sure not everyone realizes that this issue exists because they don't usually connect to public WiFi hotspots or multiple / different wireless connections in general. ... As I mentioned before, a USB WiFi dongle works great on both OsX and Win7 on all wireless networks everywhere, so its not an OS issue or a network security / encryption problem. Its probably a firmware / driver or hardware issue in the new Broadcom chipsets / 2011 MBPs.

is there a way to get anyone from Apple to look at this thread ?
