@spirermonkey, I'll post status tomorrow. I already downgraded my itunes to 10.5.3 64-bit. All I needed to do is replace the old iTunes Library file with the last saved version and it came up with all my settings and collections.
Just another FYI guys... I had trouble with 10.5 as well so if it doesn't work or in my case would work for a little then stop, go down further to 10.4.
Why downgrade when you can upgrade. I have had problems with home sharing for months now, ever since I upgraded to iTunes 10.5. I upgraded to iTunes 10.6 and upgraded my ATV2 software on the 9th of March and it has worked perfect. Its magical again. I hope this helps
I have 10.6 and the latest ATV software and I still get the bug.
Here's an interesting twist...My movie was dropping every 3 minutes from my pc. I loaded the movie onto my son's macbook and watched it through without any further complications. It doesn't solve my problem, but if anyone from apple is listening...
I downgraded to 10.5.3 and I'm still having the problem with connecting to home sharing with all my Apple devices. Going to downgrade to 10.4.1 now to see if that helps.
For whats it worth I have this issues too and have gone 3 dfferent routers with two different providers and still the same issue. Only since the last update has this been a issue. The air play from pc to ATV last a bit longer but drops aswell
I have 2 ATV with the latest software and iTunes 10.6
For me each ATV drops it connection to Home Sharing independently of each other after x time.
Rebooting iTunes and/or the ATV gets it to reconnect.
Prior to a couple of weeks ago, when I purchased the 2nd ATV, it worked fine for years with no problems.
Either adding the 2nd ATV or a recent ATV or iTunes software update has caused the problem.
On one of the ATVs I have disabled sleep and will report back if that fixes the issue.
is anyone with the "restart iTunes then it's ok for a while" problem using a Mac OS? From what I've seen it seems like people replying are all using Windows 7.
Yep, Windows 7 here. Specifically 64 bit.
pagemakers2, I have 2 atv 2s in my house that have been working properly and independently for months. It seems to be the upgrade that buggered the one using Windows 7. Frobo, The one using OS is working fine.
I'm using OSX Lion. Latest version and I have the problem.

FWIW, I had problems for months which appear to have been self corrected through the various software updates. For quite some time now all is working perfectly. I have a 200GB iTunes library on a 2007 MacMini with OSX 10.7.3, Toshiba windows vista laptop, new iPod touch and iPad2. Latest software versions on all devices. All connected via wifi on a newer Airport extreme. I also have 2 Roku boxes which have their own problems from time to time. I am on my second ATV2. The first one was replaced by Apple under warranty.
Ok, I ran 10.4.1 all day with a 4-5 hour span of inactivity and all devices hooked to home sharing are working. The final test will be tomorrow morning when I wake up after 8 hours of inactivity. Looking good..
I'm seeing this behavior as well after 12 hours or so. Restarting iTunes always fixes the issue. For some reason after about a day apple tv just will not connect to the computer. Restart iTunes and it instantly connects.
Not too sure if my issues started with the new iTunes version or the new apple tv SW. Either way I hope they fix this soon.
Using Win7 64 bit. Worked fine previous to the new iTunes / apple tv SW. From reading the forums lots of people are seeing this issue. Hopefully apple takes notice and provides a fix.
