Question regarding NBA League Pass ATV2 menu option

Hello,

I figured that I would ask this question here, since nba.com does not seem to have the answer:

I am wanting to subscribe to NBA League Pass through my Apple TV - nba.com offers 3 different League Pass subscription options, at 3 different price points, I was wondering which option was the most cost effective if I only wanted to watch it on my Apple TV? I checked on nba.com/leaguepass and they make no mention of the AppleTV. According to their website, it sounds like the "Mobile Only" subscription would work for what I want.

Does anyone else, on this forum, use the NBA League Pass option with their AppleTV? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Apple TV with iOS 4.2, Windows 7, iTunes 10.2.1.1

now nba.com says that league pass is FREE thru jan. 8 for anyone and everyone.

some info i coulda used a few days ago before i gave them $169 for something that isnt even ready to roll yet.

so, anyone out there who hasnt purchased it, YOU SHOULD WAIT. go for free trial

and then see if its worth giving them $169.

especially with the apple tv and the new way they are working it this year.

airplay can have a lot of drop outs just with music, i really wonder how it will do with hd games.

this is their answer to me regarding NBA Pass BROADBAND

"NBA.TV does not have a Apple TV application and what you are looking at is the application for the US League Pass which is different product. NBA.TV does not have any plans to release an Apple TV application however we are always looking to expand the viewing experience. When the application is released for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad you will be able to use AirPlay to view the games on your Apple TV. Where are you located, if you are outside the US this is not available to you. If you are outside the US then you need NBA.TV as this is the subscription for International use. As stated earlier NBA.TV does not support Apple TV and that is a US application. This US application will not work Internationally. If you have any more questions please let us know."

Consusing. After reading it several times, this is how I interpret it:

If you live inside the U.S. and you purchase the NBA Broadband League Pass and you have Apple TV and you own either an iPhone, Ipod Touch or an Ipad (1 and 2?) then you can enable Apple's AirPlay feature to watch live games on your television........ WHEN THE APP IS RELEASED.

I see no mention of streaming directly to the Apple TV device, as it was last season.

Also, I did see this morning that the NBA app is new on Itunes.

It says it allows you to watch live games FREE until Jan. 8.

I'm not sure if this is THE app that they are referring to, that will be used to AirPlay to Apple TV.

When they say "NBA.TV" I don't know what they are referring to. ????

And lastly, dropouts on Apple TV/AirPlay are widely reported. During a movie or viewing some pictures, this is annoying, but during a live NBA game it will be downright frustrating. I am wondering if you will have to relaunch the AirPlay completely if signal drops. That will get old really fast.

Why didnt they just leave it alone and keep it working just like Netflix does on the Apple TV? Very minimal buffering and a great picture and no dependence on other Apple devices or AirPlay reliability.

bummed

Although it does suck that they changed the NBA LP viewing expereince and basically gave the middle finger to anyone who doesn't have an ipod or ipad, the App that I just downloaded on my Ipad to sync up my Apple TV is SICKKKK. I have not used the air play feature yet so that might still suck, but the app in general and the convience of not having to exit a game to check all the other scores and updates, is awesome. So thanks for the app and everything, but its bogus that Apple has to execute it's marketing (If you don't have an apple product then you're just screwed) every single way possible.

That decision is almost certainly not Apple's. MLB works great streaming directly to ATV, if there is a requirement for another device, it would be an NBA restriction probably based on some paranoid rightsholder bullcrap.

MLB = user friendly

NBA = user hostile
