XCode installation does not finish

Thanks, that dialog came up at about 20% and I quitted (does that word exist?) iTuneshelper, but the installation stopped again at about 96%...

Thanks for that, Kevin, I had the same experience and quitting iTunes helper solver the problem.

I had to Quit iTunes Helper as described here via Activity Monitor but the install still hung around 98%. So I force quit the Xcode Install process via Activity Monitor. Quit all apps, restarted Xcode Install and it completed successfully.

had the same problem with xcode 4.1 however, for me ituneshelper was not running so that was not the cause but it certainly pointed me in the right direction. i quit some programs via activity monitor. i quit clamx antivirus, little snitch and logmein. re-installed xcode and it completed.

Looks like everyone has found a solution of some sort, but for future reference, this is how I was able to install Xcode before the update that apparently fixed the hanging issue:

Presumably this will work for any app install.

Just had the same problem with a dialogue asking to close iTunes, and iTunes was not open (!!??!!) so your solution saved my life (well ok maybe not my life but I was feeling pretty mooky).

Thanks so much for the Activity Monitor tip...that did the trick for me without hosing my system by force quitting that others experienced.

Had problems installing XCode 3.2 on OSX 10.6.8. I can't upgrade system software on mac at work. So I found and downloaded Xcode for 3.2. The install hung up at around 98%. Just wanted to let other people know that I resolved problems, with install still running ... Went to Activity Monitor app on machine and forced ITunes Helper app to Quit. Installer starting spinning through the rest of the install. I am good.
