XCode installation does not finish

Hello everybody,

I'm installing xcode downloaded from appstore. The installation starts, reaches about 95% and with the message "installing files" stops - i.e. hours are passing (already 2) and the status bar is still at the same position, nothing happens. I can close the installation, when restarted it starts from the beginning and story repeats.
Does anyone have idea what's going on? Any help appreciated.

best regards

Well after 6 pages of replies maybe this won't help anyone but I'm going to share anyway. Was installing Xcode and had same problem as everyone else: Would not finish installing. Left computer sitting there from 4am to 12pm and it was still not done. Said same thing: Installing. So after i got here n starting reading how some of you fixed it by opening package contents i began to repeat that process. I got inside the contents folder n started scrolling. Then i click on F4 (Application Button) to look at Xcode again and it decided it was a good tie to finish right there. Xcode seems to be installed i haven't clicked open yet just started typing this. Maybe this will help someone else.

Best of luck,

I just bought new mac pro. I went to app store - click on install and icon showing download will go some time (10-15) min and then would stop.

I am not sure if next step was required - but I went to app and updated my Yosemite to 10.10.5

I tried in App to install xcode. XCODE code is big 4GB - therefore it takes time to download it.

you can see progress in Activity monitor. I left the download process over night and in morning voila I have XCODE 7.1 installed.

I just had the same problem, about 95% of the xcode data was download it but it was missing the last 5% indicating that were mising 7 minutes of time. I just started download it another app ( no matter which one ) and then click it option so the cancel option appeared, cancel the last app , canceled also xcode and when I did that I figure it out that xcode was actually download it in my applications folder, I open it and everything was fine. Maybe this steps can help you too.

Good bess everyone in here. Thumbs up!
