XCode installation does not finish

Hello everybody,

I'm installing xcode downloaded from appstore. The installation starts, reaches about 95% and with the message "installing files" stops - i.e. hours are passing (already 2) and the status bar is still at the same position, nothing happens. I can close the installation, when restarted it starts from the beginning and story repeats.
Does anyone have idea what's going on? Any help appreciated.

best regards

I've had the installer freeze twice around 50% through, and it's trashed the system both times needing a complete reinstall from the Superduper! clone I did before.

The issues seems to happen when it's deleting files from Application Support to do with Steam (that's what the dialog says). I clicked keep files and it just locked up. Left it 12 hours but it didn't come free and wouldn't respond to an attempt to force quit.

Anyone else having issues and have Steam installed?

After applying the 4.0.1 update in the App Store app to a previous 4.0.0 install which had hung at 99% and been force-quit: even though 4.0.1 is now installed and working well, every time I open the App Store it reports that there's a 4.0.1 update available. If I press then the Update button, 4 something GBs of data are downloaded (the whole "Install Xcode.app" for version 4.0.1), and nothing happens. Then I open the App Store app, and it finds again that there's a 4.0.1 update which needs to be applied.

Having an SSD drive, I'd rather minimize the number of erase/write cycles, especially when several GBs of data are involved each time. Is there something I could do, like launch directly the "Xcode and iOS SDK.mpkg" package lying within version 4.0.1 of "Install Xcode.app", that would guarantee that afterwards the App Store app would properly register that 4.0.1 is installed?

I'm having the same problem. It hung at "Installing Files," somewhere around 95% finished.

I didn't touch it for nearly 20 hours, just to be sure, but I ended up having to force quit the installer.

I wish I had backed up my system prior to this Xcode install, I didn't expect it to jack up my system, but already a few things seem jibbered up. After a reboot, Firefox took about five times as long to load as normal, it took nearly 2 minutes. An application I had used right before the install program, Disk Inventory X, now crashes when I try to run it.

So far it seems that install xCode hosed my system to at least some degree, and I don't know how!

I expect a Microsoft installer script to hang, of course, but not something Apple made.... What's going on here?

So dissapointing.

Hi Everyone,

I get the same problem of xcode 4 from the mac app store gets stuck about 95% before finishing, But I get an annoying installation alert window (that has no way of getting rid of due to no close button or ok button) the alert says in order to continue installation, Please close the following application: Itunes..... I haven't even got itunes open... I have restarted my mac several times but still comes up with same error... I know i haven't got itunes open because i have the blue ball below any open apps.. anyone get the same problem?.

Hi again Everyone,

I managed to finally get my copy of xcode 4.1 purchased from mac app store to install.... I went into Applications/Utilities/activity monitor and selected " itunes helper " from the list of processes and clicked quit. The annoying installation alert window dissapeared also... why make windows you can't close?... hope this helps anyone that has had the same problem.

Ok, this is going to sound INSANE but I was having the same installation issues with it hanging and not finishing updating files. I attempted everything. Nothing worked. Then I got the brilliant idea that maybe it had something to do with Time Machine and older versions. I ejected my Time Machine Drive, shut down then restarted. Guess what, a clean, working install.

BTW, I have a Seagate Goflex Free Agent backup drive.
