I was today trying to update my iphone 4. Unfortunately without succcess ;-(
After the update completed (well, nearly) i got the error 1013 update failed and iphone had to be restored. Unfortunately the restore also fails (numerous times). I am now trying to download the ios via another computer and it is going to take 4 hours to download! My internet speed on downlink is 16000! anyone else experiencing similar issues? I Have never had any problems before..
Sad Story -- Happy Ending!
Started yesterday at 6:30A (alllowing extra time for the update). Using a win7 (64bit), iTunes 10.2.1.1, an iPone 3GS, and USB connection.
After 3hours (went out and did moe errands) the phone was hung. can;t exit iYunes so unplugged the USB cable. Did a warm boot on the iPhone and reconnected. Mesage form itunes that the phone was in recover mode and I needed to restore. tried but it hung again -- nothing adfter an hour. Called AT&T for helkp (where I bought the phone) and a very nice person told me this was an iYunes issue and she would transfer me to Apple Customer Support. The Apple person was very direct but told me it was an Anti-virus/firewall issue and I may nned to de-install those (Norton 360) before proceeding. He said I couldn't get anymore of his help uless I wanted to pay $29 troubleshooting fee. Well, I deicede to disable 360 and try again. Long story short, I ended up at the Apple stire and they did the update on both my iPhone and iPad. Lost eveything but contacts during the process but had backed up prior to starting everything. So, 7.5 hours without my phone and a wasted day. BUT I'm back up and ok today.
Hi Adrian. Sorry, really stupid question. Followed your instructions but control +o takes me to a writeout prompt and control + x is not available so I have not been able to save the changes. Any advice gratefully received. thanks
ctr-o should give you a writeout,
ctr-x is available if you do it at right moment you can skip the ctr-o and do a ctr-x only, then it will ask if you want to save. Same thing.
Itunes kept saying Phone is not recognized while in recovery mode. I turned off my McAfee completely, modified hosts file (removed all entries), still same issue. Then i chanced on an idea that the cable is bad. Grabbed a new cable and whoa-la. The phone is being recognized now. The cable itself is from circa 2004, so there must be some kind of changes in cabling since then that prevented it to work with latest iOS/itunes upgrade. I could have sworn I've used that cable in the past for updates, syncs, charging.
Bargh! Same thing just happened to me 'error 1013' and my iphone had to be restored, except it wouldn't let me restore the phone without the software update...I was in a catch 22! I went in circles for a while and was just about to give a phone call to Apple when it started restoring (after try number 4 or 5 and a few long minutes of panic)—and for some reason the restore decided to work? It's in the middle now so here's to hoping I don't end up with a brick.
Had anyone seen or heard from Appel and a way too kill this problem, i had try anything u have postet on this forum, and I got a brick too - black, and im p... over, that just one in Appel dont get out and alert us users on there homepage...and tell they are sorry - used all day from 10 to 19 here i copenhagen w my brother in law too shoot this down - no luck at all
i turned off all anti viruses and firewalls, backed up all my info and synced new stuff and the update still wouldn't work. It is my first time doing an update and I am not sure what I'm doing wrong and from the looks of it other people aren't able to update it as well. It keeps saying my connection time has timed out. I have no idea what to do and I've tried a dozen of times.
