Update Problem iPhone 4 to ios 4.3

I was updated my iPhone 4 to ios 4.3 and received error 1016 I believe. My iPhone is now in "recovery" mode and is completely locked up. Apple is no support at all. Resetting the phone does not work. Can anyone provide some guidance?

Thanks for your help, this seems to be caused by a change in the hosts line created if you install Cydia on your iphone.

Adrian, silly questions but where is the "applications" folder? I'm working from a PC (windows 7).

I had the same problem with downloading which I encountered errors. But after a painful upgrade to ios 4.3, my iPhone ipod music player does not shuffle from one music to the other. It plays the same music continiously. It is disappointing to have an upgrade from a compnay like Apple. I am going to revert back to 4.2.1 How on erth Apple can make this kind of mess?

I am seriously fed up with Apple's inability to handle its own updates. I just got an iPhone 4 about a week ago, and encountered major problems with this upgrade. I almost didn't do it for fear this would happen, and thank GOD I was able to get it working (after many attempts & failed restores). *** is wrong with you, Apple? WINDOWS handles updates better than you, and that is the saddest realization I've had all year. Get your $hit together, this is unacceptable. You don't get to overcharge people hundreds of dollars only to fail miserably once you've got them on the hook. This is outrageous, and major problems occur with EVERY single update you people release. FIGURE IT OUT for Christ's sake, or I will not hesitate to switch to Droid & you know **** well how many thousands upon thousands of other people think & feel the same way. I am not some moronic Apple fangirl/boy who'll stick with you no matter what.

I agree is needs to stop. But, I visited an Apple store last night and they gave me a new phone as soon as they saw the problem. They said is was a hardware issue.

I've had my iphone 4 almost since it's release. I tried updating it this evening, and because I'd had a bad day today I wasn't actually paying attention to what was going on on the screen.. all I know is my stupid iphone is stuck on the 'plug into itunes' screen, and that my computer detects it perfectly but that itunes does not.
I'm really at a loss for words, I've tried a bunch of different things including reinstalling itunes to get the bloody thing to recognize my phone and I don't know what to do from here. I have a backup file somewhere to restore the phone but that's useless at present since itunes (which I maintain is the single worst piece of software ever written, seriously I've had more luck with Windows screw ups in the last 15 odd years) wont even see it.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful.

oh, I just thought I'd clarify that because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing at the time, I'm not actually sure which update it is, whether it's 4.3 or 4.2.whateveritis

Don't update to 4.3 . Not worth the hassle...

Both 4.3 and 4.3.1 updates have left me with a brick. Both times I've stupidly started the update in the evening with only minutes to make it to the closest apple store before closing. Both times they hooked the phone to a mac, restored, updated, and returned my device in working order. Last night I made sure I backed-up everything prior to initiating the update. Therefore, when I came home I was able to get all my messeges, apps, etc. in about 10 minutes. Both times the tech's at the store said they hadn't seen this problem. Blamed my Norton. My iTouch (3rd gen) updates fine and I just use any old cord I have around.

Is there a difference in the latest connection cables? Glad to see I'm not the only one...

Do you know how to do this in Windows? There is no "Applications" folder.
