Update Problem iPhone 4 to ios 4.3

actually just did this and it restored, just waiting to see if i can restore my info now from backup.

1. Go to your "Applications" folder
2. Go to your "Utilities" folder
3. Launch "Terminal"
4. Type "sudo nano /etc/hosts" (without quotes) and hit return
5. Enter your password
6. Use the down arrow key to find the "gs.apple.com" entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering "#" (no quotes) in front of the text
7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O on the keyboard
8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X on the keyboard
9. Restore your iDevice

Ok, backup went fine and all up and running again...Pheeeeeeeeew

I just tried updating to 4.3 and my iPhone 4 turned into a brick with error 1013 as well.

I'll try this "solution" but I have to say that Apple disappointed me big time on this one.

Just wanted to report back: iPhone restored ok and is now syncing. I lost about 1 hour on this. Next time I'm taking the phone to service and requesting a new one as replacement.

Yeah me to, i missed a few important work calls which is a real PIA. I have not seen anywhere that Apple have acknowledged the problem...just left us to figure it out for ourselves.

Just remember to delete the gs.apple.com + any digits entirely and when the line is deleted select shift 3 for the hash
,this will close out the line. Then control O to save, you then just hit enter to confirm and control X to exit the nano. You can leave the terminal open and go ahead and restore. Hope it works for you.

Altering the hosts file also worked for me. Not sure how this contributed to the firmware restore stage to fail....

My experience was far different than yours. It took me 5-7 minutes to get the download completed (I love my nearly dedicated 20 Mbps fiber link to the internet). I had just performed a full sync, then I did another backup and then updated the iOS. About 3-5 minutes later, it was back running and I haven't seen anything major that looked out of place or wrong. It all seems to be working just fine for me.

I ended up restoring on a PC. How shameful. It worked but at what humiliating cost. Apple needs to come forward and inform every Mac owner of this issue and the right work around. I ended up loosing sleep because I couldn't afford to go to work with a bricked iPhone 4.

I was quite happy seeing update, finally screwed my sleep as couldn't update with some error, I think I'm considering too much for my mobile. Fed up..

I tried to update it 5-6 times and failed all.. 😟

I used TinyUmbrella to kick my phone out of recovery mode. Restarted and works fine.

My problem is even bigger...

I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen and an iPhone 4 (since january), so last night tried to update both...but i had the famous problem...

I tried to restore iPhone without succes, but I fixed the iPod (don't know how) normally...just connected to PC and iTunes.
But my PC even don't recognise my iPhone as a device so the only solution I know is to restore de iPhone in another PC. Will I lose all my text messages and the photos taken with the camera ?

This is getting me out of my nerves...thanks Jobs !
