4.3 SMS Tones - Choo Choo

I love my iPhone 4 but I cannot understand why my favourite sms tone 'choo choo' has been changed by IOS 4.3. Actual functionality has been withdrawn and I'm really annoyed about it. I accept it's only a small change but surely a software update should add functionality, not take it away. I'm a passionate supported of all Apple products, but this change absolutely stinks and I'm furious about it.

This is not directed at any one person, but REALLY?? There are over 10,000 lost lives in Japan, even more homeless, a nuclear disaster about to happen, and it will likely be years before many in this country return to any sense of normalcy and you all sit here and whine about the length of your SMS tones? Really??

I guess there's something wrong with me? My SMS tone was shortened and it just doesn't upset me in the least. I was one of the people who believed they were waaaaaay too long and am actually pleased they have been shortened. More to the point, my office mates are delighted my SMS tone is shorter. Really!

Maybe you missed that we're living in the Golden Age of Entitlement... Ask not what you can do for others; demand what others must do for you.

While I agree that this tragedy is absolutely devastating and obviously does not compare to the shortening of an audio file, the thread was not "what upsets you most this week". It just so happened the release of the iPad and iOS 4.3 coincided with a terrible event and I'm sure if Apple would have known somehow, they would not have chosen to have the two so close together (much media attention has been directed toward the disaster as opposed to Apple, as it usually is with a new release). There are places to discuss everything, and I would argue this forum is not the best place to discuss the tradgedy and is the place to discuss iOS concerns.

Sam....I wasn't really discussing the tragedy in Japan. I was just putting things in perspective. While some may not be happy their SMS tones were shortened, the tone of most posts was as though it is a disaster beyone belief (my interpreration perhaps). I guess I'm just saying that in the scheme of things, there must be other things to be really upset about. Again, just my opinion, but a shortened SMS tone, to me, seems hardly worth getting upset over.

I mean no offense to anyone who is upset their beloved SMS tone was altered. And I encourage anyone who is less than thrilled to provide feedback to Apple. I do agree with people that it's about time the iPhone provided truly user customized SMS tones.

@rbrylawski

Really? You have the arrogance to suggest I or anyone else here is more concerned with SMS tones than the earthquake? Really?

you should be ashamed. should every post on this forum now be solely about the earthquake? In fact, don't bother responding - I'm visiting this forum solely to talk about SMS alerts and I'm not going to respond to anything that isn't directly connected with this matter.

I don't apologise for being vocal about this and I will continue to push the issue until I get an official response. I have already left feedback, so let me 100% clear. don't bother revisiting this thread unless it's to discuss SMS alerts.

WE WANT CUSTOMISABLE SMS ALERTS. BRING BACK CHOO CHOO

I would "discuss" it with you, but what more is left to say? You are NOT shouting at Apple here, you are just shouting at other users like yourself. The only way you can push this issue is to start buying up all the Apple stock you can until you have a controlling interest or apply for a job at Apple and work your way up until you are in a controlling position.

If you take the time to use the Search Discussions box to the right you will find a ton of threads that discuss this issue. And these have come up since the release of the first iPhone in 2007. And no one in all that time, not here, not in the media, no where, have received an "official response" about any SMS issues. Nothing on why they are not customizable, nothing on why only the iPhone 4 received the new ones, nothing on why some have been truncated.

I do agree with you that the editing was poorly done, I do agree with you that I would like to see customizable text tones, I also agree that comparing this to the tsunami, war in Libya, or any other similar thing that can be brought up is over the top.

But I think you are out of ways to "push" this and can only wait like the rest of us.

all fair points and I appreciate the clarification. I must say I'm deeply saddened that I've little chance of getting an official response, especially as there's clearly a large body of loyal customers who are angry with this change. If I understand you correctly, you're basically saying that these forums are purely for apple customers to talk amongst themselves for solutions, and this is why I became confused. I was under the impression I was in the support area for Apple.com, not a forum that could be on any Apple focussed tech site. On other companies websites support means support, including customer/ company interaction. oh well, you live and learn.

I'm not one to wait for anything and my only hope is that extra attention has been bought to a known issue. job done.

Very true.

Apple rarely gives official responses. Ever.

Correct.

It happens to be hosted and endorsed by the company because the see the values of having passionate users volunteer their time and offer support. It also allows user to collaborate amongst each other.

Support does mean support. This just happens to be the Discussions section of their support site. An official company representative would be happy to speak to you, and [they will even call you|https://expresslane.apple.com>! Just know that they will almost certainly not comment on an issue like this. That's simply just how Apple operates, period.

your sarcasm is pathetic.

Ah yes, the inevitable personal attack. Actually, I am impressed as I had you pegged for someone incapable of recognizing sarcasm at all
If you have something constructive to add please do. If not, don't bother.

There hasn't been anything remotely "constructive" in this entire thread. I agree that some of the truncated text tones are lame as well - the ONLY thing to do is post it to Apple on the feedback page and hope for the best. Ranting and raging here is pointless, and some of it in this thread borderlines on the pathological.
