Significant light leakage, few light botches on sides/corners - defective?

Actually I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but thought I'd share my experience here. Very disappointing, but certainly completely usable until I can exchange.

Hoping it's one of those strange manufacturing things where it "needs to settle," but I doubt it.

Note that I have an iPad 1 also, and it definitely doesn't have this problem.

I got Ipad 2 yesterday and it has light leak also. I called apple customer service and made an appointment.

I went to apple store to do an replacement, he told me I have 2 choices, replace it but I can do only once and cannot refund it later because I bought it online or I can return it by shipping it back only. I've never heard about that. I gonna call apple customer service tomorrow. Does someone get this experience? Please let me know.

I bought mine at Walmart. Got two replacements that were bad at Apple store. They then gave me a gift card so I could order one online. Got the next one from China. It was bad. The Apple store refunded my money, even though it had been five weeks since my original purchase. And as I said, it was purchased at Walmart. They are screwing with you about replacement and refund. I was treated well by the Apple store, but as far as the product and the company, they are worse than Microsoft with QC. I have given up on them and their products.

I think its different when you order it online, it has to be sent back to Apple. Im guessing, dont quote me on it.

I think because you have an engraving its gonna take longer to repair or replace as there going to either have too order a new one and have it engraved for you. Or just simply fix the screen on your own.

(Would be why you need to send it back).

Thank you for your response. 😀 The one thing that he didn't take a look my Ipad 2 and he didn't know it has an engraving.

I printed the photo to show the light leakage on the screen. I'm wondering why he could say I can replace only once and I cannot return the replacement item after that if I choose this option.

I have 2 choices, replace only once or return it.

Althought I asked him why many people who has the same issue can replace it more than once. Someone replaced it 5 times. He responsed me "it's change policy. For currently you can replace it only once."

It's kind of he doen't want to responsible for it. He knew if he said like this, who dare to replace? He can't guarantee the replacement item is ok. I feel I'm so disappointed with his service. I'll call apple customer service again.

I just got my new Ipad2 this morning, the store called me last saturday telling me mine has arrived (5 weeks waiting). As I bought it in a big Store here in Spain (El Corte Inglés), they told me that if I have any other problem they will change it again until I have a 100% one.

I just checked and the Backlight leaking problem is gone. I even can get it at 100% backlight (brightness) and you do not see any backlight like in circles in the corners.

Still I will check it tonight in bed playing Solitaire (simple but very addictive!!).

But for now It works great!

Lucky me, I guess!

Well just recieved my 3rd dispatched from China last Thursday and I have to say this is the worst one to date. Its just such a lottery as to whether you get a Samsung or LG panel. Bleeding from every side of the display and this can be so clearly seen as soon as you turn it on out the box.

I am so annoyed at this rediculous problem that should have been sorted by now. What the **** are Apple playing at.

I really cant be bothered with this complete and utter disregard for quality. I have read the LG articles and from seeing this I would never by an LG product. Gonna contact applecare tomorrow and the only thing that I want to hear is that they know of the issue and will send me out a 100% bleeding free iPad otherwise this is going straight back for a refund.

Just to keep some of your hopes up and to not be completely discouraged, I'm on my THIRD iPad 2. The current replacement and my original replacement have impeccable screens. My ORIGINAL straight from the factory retail boxed iPad 2 which I had waited a good 4-5 weeks for had pretty excessive blooming (about 2 inches in length and it bloomed about an inch out, that's just the really bad spot, the other three corners all had noticeable blooming but was contained more or less to the corners, there were some light blooming all across the right side as well). My first replacement had an impeccable screen but it developed a very stubborn rotation lock switch in which it didn't really click and was stubborn to the point that it was practically cutting at my finger when I tried to engage it. My current replacement (this being my 3rd iPad) has no issues and an impeccable screen. So that's basically two replacement iPad 2's in a row with no screen blooming issues. I would say that ones chances of getting a iPad 2 that doesn't have the screen issues is very very very high at this point.
