mac keeper?

Hi have a 2010 mac mini 320gb and as i was surfing the web a website called mac keeper said my mac might be at risk. after seeing the website 10 times then i read what they had to say, it said that it would bring a boost to the mac by antivirus and my mac was very slow at that time so i just installed the app. do you think mac keeper is a good app? thanks in advance.

There are currently no known Viruses for mac. Unless you have noticed a significant decrease in speeds everything is most likely fine. Mac Keeper want you to buy their software, so of course they're going to say its slow. But how can they tell over the internet..?

I'd uninstall Mac Keeper, and check your pop-up settings in Safari. Consider using the Adblock extension too.

Hi, I'm a relatively new Mac user.

An ad for MacKeeper popped up on m y machine about a week back so I thought I would give it a try. I installed it (not knowing it was simply a trial version). It scanned my system and told me of all these issues and said click to fix. It fixed 100 issues and then said I had to register (pay) to fix the rest. At that point I shut it down and it's been sending me reminder emails and pop-ups since.

Two days back my Mail system was hijacked and a series of a dozen spam emails was sent out to my address book. Fortunately most mail servers rejected them. Has anybody had this type of experience. Does anybody think there might be a connection between MacKeeper and this?

I just tried to follow these insturction but had a password request. I didn't download the purchased version, but I did download the "free" one. After researching here, I decided not to opt for "Mackeeper." I went to ultilities and found the "Mackeeper" application with the Michelin man ripoff (even though I didn't see it in "applications" when I first searched that folder). I tried dragging it to the trash but got a request for a password so that "finder can make changes"! Is this right??? Why would I have to give a password to drag a folder to the trash?

from mikeoderstrom:

Go to Finder>Applications>Utilities and open Activity Monitor. In the Filter search, look for MacKeeper or Zeobit and kill any process that you find.

You also might have to manually search in System folders and files and look for anything called MacKeeper or Zeobit and drag it to the trash and empty it. Then restart your mac and double check Activity Monitor again just to be sure it's gone.

Question: When you are at the "activity monitor' what do you do there? Its just a window showing you a graph. What does one do at that point? I know this is so basic for many of you, but not for me. Thanks for your help in understanding what to do.

I did follow early on how to search for MacKeeper and/or Zeobit, but never was sure what I was supposed to do at the activity monitor.

I agree with everyone who says NOT to download this software. Though my Macbook Pro was unaffected, it's been acting sluggish lately and I thought Mackeeper would be a good program to download. It did a sweep of my HD and then wanted me to register. The funny thing is that when it swept my computer, it claimed I had no virus protection when I have Norton Antivirus installed. This was the first thing that tipped me off that Mackeeper is just a bunch of hype and doesn't really interact with your computer at all.

Any suggestions on what would enhance your Mac experience? Just downloaded and am using the new Mountain Lion OS. So far, so good.

Hey, could someone give me a hand?

I downloaded mackeeper, and opened up the file to instal it, but at the screen that displayed my user name and asked for my mac's password for the autorisation to install it, I got cold feet and decided to close the programme and read up more about mackeeper before doing so.

It's horrifying to hear all your sotries and I'm so sorry you had to experience all that. I haven't installed the program yet, and immediately sent it to the Trash Bin and emptied it all. I've restarted my computer and checked my Activity Monitor. Below are pictures of it.
