Has anyone that has had their iPad already ship seen it move from Lantau Island, HK? Nothing has changed as far as the ship date or the delivery date, it just has not moved in a day or so.
It is amazing to me that apple has a role out like it did and the experience of the iPad 1 sales and does not understand supply and demand for its products - it is very evident that Steve Jobs does not have much input on day to day operations any more - they were unprepared. I ordered 3/11 and my order status says delivery 4/8 something is very messed up - I also checked with Chicago stores, South Bend stores and they don't even know when or if they will get shipments day to day. I anyone from apple is watching these they need to get it together - this is not an earthquake issue - this is a lack of being prepared for the demand. Considering canceling my order and waiting a few months - or for the iPad 3 - hype is one thing - losing money to xoom or whatever Motorola is making just seems unacceptable.
yankeegal: mine must be on the same shipment as yours because i have the same est. delivery dates, same est. delivery time by fedex and it has been listed at HK at 11:55 pm. although i ordered a black 32gb Wifi only, engraved and i ordered at 1:12 pacific/4:12 eastern. it seemed like it would never leave Shenzhen, CN. hopefully it will make it before the weekend. where are you located? i am in the south east.
i as well was going to wait for an ipad 3. but apple advised me that i would have one in 3-4 business days to my door, so like an imbecile i beleived them and ordered.
Today is the 4th business day, so you are not even yet do for anything to have happened. Next Monday will be the 7th business day. If something does not happen sometime during Monday then you my have something to complain about.
If you do a search of the Apple Discussions you will find a thread like this one during the first couple weeks of release for every popular product that has been released. In those threads you will see folks posting their first comments ever in the Apple Discussions who opened an account here just so that they could rant and complain and threaten.
I think that Apple does a good job considering the numbers being dealt with. It is a computerized system. If everyone got the personal service that some of the complainers demand, then the introduction of a new product would literally take months to accomplish.
Hi Pastor,
Only if Apple had a crystal ball, they can plan for the huge onrush of orders. The rumor (not confirmed) is that they sold 1 Million units in the 3 day launch weekend and that amounts to 231 units/minute. They have 235 Apple stores + Best Buy + Frys Electronics + Target + Walmart channels and the total is mind boggling. In the rapidly changing short lifecycle of technology products, you can have many production issues - issues that need to be ironed out when first batch of user experiences start pouring in. If Apple manufactures few million units ahead of time, then the cost of repair could be very high. Production ramp up is always a gradual and deliberate process. And if they wait to iron out all the issues internally, then the product launch could be delayed.
Crazy people like us willingly participate in testing the early production parts - can be both good and bad experience.
Mine has just turned to "Prepared for shipping" even though I haven't seen anyone order before my 12:40AM PDT time stamp.
I ordered my iPad2 on March 11th and my confirmation email said it would be shipped on 3/13 and arrive by 3/17. Then over the weekend I went online to check the status of the shipment and they changed the "ships on" date to April 1, and the "arrives by" date to April 7th. Did anyone else have their shipping date change like that?
I agree with mainly being frustrated at the complete inconsistency... I understand that my 5 business days aren't up yet, but when you place your order at 1:01 a.m. PST, why does it still say "Not Shipped Yet" and other people have already gotten theirs? That's what's most frustrating... This is my first online Apple purchase, and I read articles before placing my order that said order early and you will get it quickly, and instead it hasn't even shipped!
I ordered my 32GB ATT White on 3/11 at 1:17 PST and mine also just changed to prepared for shipment. I really hope it goes out tomorrow and can be delivered on saturday. What is the shipping speed of these things? My cover was sent standard last saturday and is set to arrive on friday. (central pennsylvania)
I ordered my ipad at 4:03 PT/ 7:03 ET.
anyone anywhere near this time see a change in their order status?
according to the estimates today should have been the day it shipped out.
Just checked on my order (32G black wifi/3G) and it's now showing "Prepared for shipment". I checked around 10PM EST.
Edit Did not receive an update email, I had to check the order status. Could be that the email will not go out until there is a tracking number for it.
