iPad 2 Shipping

Has anyone that has had their iPad already ship seen it move from Lantau Island, HK? Nothing has changed as far as the ship date or the delivery date, it just has not moved in a day or so.

It is manufactured and engraved in the same place - a sweatshop called Foxconn. Typically, stuff comes to Apple warehouse and then gets shipped, but this time, it looks like Foxconn is doing the entire thing. Apple has many more channels to supply this time (Best Buy, Fry's, Walmart, Target,...) unlike earlier launches and so they must have done this to squeeze out some more from the supply chain - it does make it more efficient as well. But, Apple looses and local control on the process of inventory as you see that it takes 2 days at least to make changes to inventory in USA as nothing is stocked here as yet for iPad-2. My wife's Macbook Air also came the same way as her config was a non-standard one and it had to be built to order in Shanghai and then shipped directly from there - even then Fedex delivered 4 days ahead of schedule (total time 2 days).

If you think Apple has screwed up this launch for this order booking on launch thru so many channels, you have to ask which company can do better. I work in semiconductor industry and am not in Operations, but it is an extremely difficult job.

Bah! There, I am shilling for Apple. Never thought I would do that. 🙂

PS: One of my iPad is in "Prepared for Shipment" stage for over 24hrs now and the other is in Shenzhen waiting for delivery on 23rd. And I placed my orders @ 12:40AM and 12:42AM PDT on 11th.

LOL, that's exactly the way I feel too. That kind of stuff makes me nuts, to the point where I HAVE to figure it out (in case you couldn't tell).

The inconsistency in this whole process--who ordered when, whose orders were shipped when, etc, as well as what FedEx's site says, the other site, and what FedEx said over the phone--is the most frustrating part. I guess if I had just said 'it will get here when it gets here" I'd have been a lot better off but that's not me.

i am SO glad im not the only one that feels that way lol i can be neurotic.. inconsistencies are so frustrating and when people on the other end of the phone make me feel like i cant read a tracking website its even worse.

also the last thing i want to do is act like a ****** and complain to apple/fedex and whoever else will listen, but its just simply the poor execution of it all thats irritating.

i tell my self how ridiculous this all is in the grand scheme of things, like japan, libya, my grades/graduating on time.. but im working on perspective =]

Well I KNOW you aren't the only one, and judging from a bunch of us on here, it's not just us. Besides being neurotic (and I mean me, not you, lol) I can be a control freak and being THIS out of control of the entire process-PLUS all of the unknowns/inconsistencies--set me off for sure (therapy session over).

But yeah, I have to try to keep it in perspective too. I am grateful to even be able to afford the darned thing, and ordering it while watching the earthquake updates at the same time should be all the perspective I need.

Am one of the early orders for 32 wifi-3G models that have been stuck with no shipment:

Tonight finally got shipment notification (expected 3/22). Contrary to what Apple customer service told me this morning that it would ship from within the U.S., it's shipping from Shenzhen. Even if I ordered early, I'm willing to wait if given timely updates and correct information - but that didn't happen.
