lol yeah this is the ultimate solution...what apple deserves for this bug.. and still doesn't fix it what a shame..

the ridicolous thing it's that the problem still persists on iOS5.. i've heard the jailbreak solution to replace a file, but this file is not included anymore on ios5.. removed.. or simply Apple wonts this problems.. we are not allowed to fix it..

My phone still bebooted out of wifi.

However there is a way out of this. My phone was 2yrs old so out of warantee. If you are prepared to spend £60 return it to apple for a battery repacement noting on the online form that you are having issue with phone keeping restarting. Apple will swap it for a new or recon phone in a brand new case with 3 months of new warantee.

My phone was swapped and it only took 4 days including sending and receiving in the post.

I know you might not agree with spending money for a fault. But to get a new phone after a year of pain with the old one. To me it was worth it. Now everything works perfectly.

I had the same problems with my iPhone 3GS and iOS4 / iOS5. Restarts after about 3 minutes a call.

I've tried Marty49's idea. I sent my iphone to Apple for battery replacement. The phone was bought 2009th.

The warranty had expired. I wrote in the note that the phone reboots during phone calls since the update to iOS5. Just as it Marty49 recommended.

The repair job was accepted and confirmed.

I later received an email that my iPhone had arrived. It was still contain a reference that I could check the current Repair status.

In the repair status was written "product replacement pending".

Two days later they sent me a new iPhone 3GS from 2011th

Maybe it's a refurbished iPhone. That does not bother me.

Now I can make calls without reboots after 3 minutes

This is essential.

The price of the exchange was about 85 including shipping.

Thanks to Apple for the rapid exchange. It took only 4 days.

I think it's a way for Apple to exchange faulty iphones and protect his own reputation and to support customers after the warranty expiration.

One should always remember Apple, other manufacturers also make good phones and only a satisfied customer will buy again from Apple or the Apple brand further recommend to others.

Hello Marty49,

It works this way. That's good.

I'm with my replacement phone very satisfied. It looks like a new phone.

By the serial number I came up with the idea that it is a refurbished phone.

Maybe I'm wrong.

The £ 60 were included shipping? It's inexpensive.

I had to pay about £71 including shipping

In any case cheaper than a new phone. I will recommend this way to a friend with the same problem with his 3GS.

Ok, I've been reading these posts for a while now because the same is going on with my wife's brand new 3gs in Norhtern Ireland on the O2 network. She has called Apple support and done what they told her to, even as far as erasing all apple data exept her backup from her computer and rebooting. I live in the States and have had 3 iPhones and NEVER had this issue and none of the people I know that have iPhones in the States have ever had this problem. It apears to me, that there is a pattern. I see these posts mostly from outside the USA and quite a few on the O2 network. So, my guess at this point, is that there are two likely scenerios.

#1. O2 is programing the phone or has some sort of issue on the network that is causing this glitch in the iPhone.

#2. Apple is sending a different iPhone overseas, than the one used domestically.

So, lets take a poll here and find out how many of you are using iPhones from outside the US.

I noticed the same thing. It's one or more batches of 3GS's mainly sold in Europe that have this problem. I don't think carrier has anything to do with it. What I find particularly galling is that there's not a peep coming out of Apple about this, while it seems to affect quite a large number of people, and while they could easily fix it with the next software update if they wanted to.

Hello,
So the problem with the iPhone 3GS can not be the network operator. The problem occurs in all networks. In Germany there are two GSM frequencies
D-net (900 Mhz) and E-net (1800 Mhz)
The D-networks are operated here from T-Mobile and Vodafone. The e-networks are operated by O2 and E-Plus.
The problem occurs in both frequencies and all operators.
I think chambone01 is right.
Perhaps a certain defective batch was sold in Europe.
