Yup, 55 pounds isn't expensive. But over here I feel we get the short end a little bit at 75 euro's. Plus €12 shipping. Also I think the phone must have been bought from apple directly or from a carrier with a plan. Neither of which applies to mine, as I bought it from a guy at work. But I like the idea though. I think you did well.

yeah i think with the last updates the reboot happens more frequently.. we can't use the device.. a 619€ device.. what a shame.. and many many people have this bug.. this topic is an example..but apple continue to hide.. O.O?? this appears as a bug simple to fix for apple.. but someone asked to himself why apple doesn't fix it?? try to think 😉

shame apple

I have a 3gs that is suffering from this problem. It turned itself off twice in the space of an hour during very important phone calls.

I've only had the phone a couple of months. Since the update I've noticed that it's become rather sluggish also. There is an annoying delay while typing, which i'm not at-all happy with.

Ok, sorry for the misinformation - I really thought it has been solved with 5.01 but nope, that's definitely not the case.

My phone is still rebooting during calls.....

Ah well, I have "only" paid 950€ for the **** phone (32GB 3Gs) two years ago - at least I would expect it to make calls without crashing. 😟

I guess that's the last time I've bought an Apple phone.

Pages and pages I see with this problem, because unfortunately I encountered it myself too. No suggested solution offered any relief UNTIL I FOUND ONE MYSELF. It is not THE solution, because that one we expect from Apple itself (btw very disappounting that Apple doesn't respond or give a good advice on this!!! Got me to the point of wanting to go back to my Nokia again!!!!)

But anyway... at one point it occured to me that the problem only happened at home... where my iPhone uses WIFI.

I turned of WIFI in settings and PROBLEM IS GONE.

Well, I understand this is not a complete solution, but I can still turn WIFI on if I am downloading or something. But at least I don't have my calls interrupted anymore.

I hope some people can use this tip, although I still think Apple should adress this in the next update.

Kind regards to you all!

Hi fellow 3GS users,

Since iOS 4 i have been in the same **** as you guys, having interrupted calls mostly while being at home (using wif) and having low reception. I didn't want to jailbreak so i couldn't go for Marty's solutions, thanks Marty anyway for sending all those great and detailed information. I was about to try the hopeless battery exchange, but then something happened ... I FOUND A WAY.

It's been 10 days now, i have been sending and receiving calls while using WIF and while being in poor reception spots and not a single reboot ! I am hoping that by posting in here won't turn my luck off, but the solution being so easy to implement it's really worth you guys give it a shot too.

Basically what I did is turning off Spotlight (which i never use) by unchecking all indexing activities, this gave great speed improvement to the phone. I'm thinking this is the main reason, but since i also did some general cleaning i can't be sure it was the only reason. I have also cleared the browser cache and history, remove a thousand or so SMS (you can export them if you don't want to loose them), removed stock information i didn't use, removed all weather locations (now that we have a great "local" weather information) and i try to reboot at least once a week.

My 3GS is now both reliable and a lot faster. Maybe this is not a final solution, but give it a shot and let us know if you get as lucky i have been "so far"...

Nielluin

and you did this on iOS 5.x? So, before turning off Spotlight you had an iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.x rebooting during calls and now you don't experience this issue anymore?

p.s.: still no one has found a way to replace the mobilewatchdog file under iOS 5.x?

p.p.s.: shouldn't be "iOS 5 update" now the title of this topic?
