Makes sense, I got an iPhone 4 replacement due to stuck home button. The replacement was noticeably dull and yellow, after about 2 weeks it's pretty much 95% gone, and looks fine you look at it straight on now, but if you look at it from the left side, the yellow tint is slightly there. I do believe that it will get better.

Now iPad 2 is a huge screen So It will probably take a longer time to dry. But what really concerns me is that the screen bleeds a little as well, this is clearly a defect.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also it seems to be clear that starting today APPLE IS HOARDING IPAD2s. I went into 3 apple stores today, tice corner, westchester mall, and palisades, all apple store reps took the iPad into the back and said that they see the screen bleed unfortunately they don't have any in stock. I know this is BS because in the past week I've gotten 4 ipad2 replacements without any problem. It seems starting today they're telling apple reps to hold all sales and replacements and only give a limited number to individuals who wait in the morning. Makes sense due to supplier issues in Japan and earthquake. I read about this yesterday on some site and what I experienced today shows that it's true. Now I guess i have to deal with it for a month. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! User uploaded file

The early European settlers of what is now North America were called "pioneers", and they were the ones often found lying dead or wounded on the ground.

No tech company can foresee or test for every possible design/manufacturing/transporation/sales/service/application/support/use issue before a new product is released.

The "Early adopters" are the defacto troubleshooters/guinea-pigs/crash-test-dummies in the beginning, so I, an avowed scaredy-cat, can wait a while for those initial production/distribution/support/use issues to be discovered and resolved, and THEN I go purchase the product in mid-life-cycle.

And thanks again to all of you early-adopters for your service!

+Any day now, I'm going to buy an Apple //e. I think most of the bugs are worked out by now.+ 😉

I own every Apple product made. I have been battling the blue/yellow screen issue with every device I have owned from them. Apple has different vendors that they buy their LCD panels from. Some LCD's have a yellow hue and some are blue. The yellow hue in the panel is permanent and will not go away with time. I am not talking about the glue issue, I am only talking about if your whole panel is this way. Apple usually has the blueish hue models in their stores to make people believe that is what they are getting. Half the products they ship have the lower grade yellow screens. I believe this is a bait and switch tactic in my opinion. They show yout these razor sharp screens and then they ship you something else. The blueish hue screens look way better and text and pictures appear crystal clear. I would pay more money if apple spent more time using these better screens with no dead pixels and no backlight bleed issues. They should also make a case for ipad 2 just like their original ipad case. The magnetic one does not protect the back of the unit from scratches.

Take a Sharp tv and move it next to an equivalent Samsung set. Now you know why people buy Samsung over Sharp. Sharp panels do not produce as good of a picture. Most people agree with me and say the blue panels look better. Also the yellow panels require a higher brightness level to achieve good results when compared to a blue one.

I totally agree with you that the blueish panels are brighter and more aesthetically pleasing to me, but I didn't know if there was some evidence as to the yellow panels being inferior. Some people may like that and call it a "warmer" color. I am not one of those people. I know the yellow panels are different, but I didn't know what made them inferior or cheaper.

Well, I have 2 iPads 2's, a 32g wifi only and a 64g 3G. The 64g 3G has definitely a yellowish tint to the whole screen compared to the slightly bluish screen of the other iPad. But since I do alot of PDF reading; the yellowish tint is much better and more comfortable for the eye to read, but this is a personal preference!

I have 2 iPhone 4 phones. One has a nice bluish screen and a clear white. This was bought in June 2010. The next one was bought in Dec 2010 and has yellowish screen.

My iPad 2 also unfortunately has a yellowish screen. I wish they made screens with a more clear white.

For those of us with yellowish screens, it is NOT a software issue. This is a hardware issue. LCD screens come from 2 manufactures. One of them makes cool white screens and the other makes warm yellowish screens.

Depending on our luck we get a cool or a warm screen. Even if we exchange it, there is no guarantee that the new one will have a cool scree. I know that this is a preference. Apple should atleast have a setting to change the screen temp like in TVs.

Personally I prefer the cool white screen and I am quite unhappy with my yellowish screen.

They have to have a more clear standard for their screen manufacturers.

Hi there,

I just returned from the Apple store, which is about 2 hours away from where I live. They kindly exchanged my defective iPad 2 (Black 16gb, wifi, top glass peeling off with backlight issue). This is the only electronic product that I have ever waited 4 hours in line for. The 4 hours plus the cash was definitely worth the device, except for the issues. 😟

The new iPad 2 they gave me has several problems.

-1.5 inch hairline scratch on the back, right above the Apple logo

-Crooked home button.. (it's kind of obvious because it is so close to the edge of the black glass that you can definitely notice it.)

- Worst of all, every thing that I view that is mostly white has a yellow tint. 😟

Other than that, the device seems to work ok. This was given to me on May 18th and it had iOS 4.3.1 installed.

Also, my Fiance's new White 16gb wifi version that we received on her Birthday has the backlight issue as well. She has sensitive eyes and unfortunately her eyes hurt after reading on her iPad 2 kindle App with a black background. We tried lowering the backlight settings but it is not helping at all. Also, her iPad has a yellow tint as well.

The question is.. what should we do now?

We don't always have the chance to drive 2 hours to the Apple store in the Chicago Area..

Thank you,
Mark

Have you tried using Stanza or eReader? They have more customizable choices for screen colors--the background and the text--and that could make a big difference.

The other thing that they have is the ability to set margins, line spacing, etc.--and two big ones:

1) Turn off full justification of text

2) Turn off page turning animation.

I will wager that with some set of those features that your girl friend will find things much more comfortable. Also, if she's reading at night in a dark room, the iPad screen will seem quite bright, even turned way down. Better to have a light on.

As to the yellow tint, crooked button, etc. I would call up Apple Care directly and explain your situation. I've found them incredibly responsive. They will even send you a prepaid mailer to send a product in.

In your case, given that you have two iPads, you could send one in and keep using the other until the new one gets to you.

I have an iPad 2 with yellowish / warm screen. The day after I bought I went back to the Apple store and informed them if this issue. They opened another new iPad and we found that it also had a yellowish warm screen. We then opened another and that was also yellowish warm.

Basically there multiple LCD screen vendors for iPad. What I learnt was that if the iPad used screen from supplier A it is a cool bluish white. If the iPad uses the screen from supplier B, tehen it has a yellowish warm screen. That is because temperature of color on the screen varies for each manufacturer.

So basically you cannot be assured that even if you return your iPad and get a new one, you will have an iPad with a cool bluish screen. You may get the warm yellow screen again.

So for this aspect alone it may be worth changing your iPad. Of course if you have other issues then you have to get it changed.
