How do I deregister my iPad if selling it

I am selling my iPad with the intent of buying the iPad 2. Can anyone advise what I need to do to clean up the iPad so that it contains no personal information and someone else can register it under their name (if I sell it). Do I just delete all the music and other items on it or is there a formal deregistration process?

There is a setting to "Deregister" each of your Apple products within your account. Is this something that should be done to allow the new owner to register it in their name?

No.

They can simply register it here -> https://register.apple.com

Even if you do as people above have suggested, Apple will still note that the product belonged to you. What I have had to do to correct this is to go to supportprofile.apple.com, sign in, click on the arrow next to the undesired product, and then hit "Unregister" and confirm it.

Bingo! You are a godsend, Andrew. I did as you suggested and discovered all my previous Apple devices still registered to me and quickly deregistered all of them. Thank you very much for this uber-helpful tip.
