MacKeeper/Zerobit Pop Up ad Problem

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to stop these MacKeeper/Zerobit pops from happening on my computer?

I've never used MacKeeper nor do I plan to ever use it now that this ad keeps popping up unwanted. What happens is I get this Mac "recommends" box that I have to click "Ok" for or completely quit Safari in order to get rid of it. Then there is this stupid ad for MacKeeper sitting there. I can seem to find anyway to get rid of it. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

It's a horrible little application without an uninstall utility ...

Make sure you remove all items on this list:

Applications/MacKeeper.app

In the System Library:
- /Library/Application Support/MacKeeper
- /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.AntiTheft.daemon
- /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.AntiVirus

In your User Library:
- /Users/yourname/Library/Preference/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist
- /Users/yourname/Library/LaunchAgents/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper
- /Users/yourname/Library/Caches/com.zeobit.MacKeeper
- /Users/yourname/Library/LaunchAgents/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.Backup.agent
- /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plist

If you get an error message that an item is in use and can't be moved/deleted open Activity Monitor and find the process and Force Quit then delete it.

So to answer your question. None of the files you told me to delete were in any of those locations. I checked each folder three times to make sure I wasn't missing them. Can't find them. Also, I downloaded the "Find Any File" utility and used it. The only files it showed me using the terms "Zeobit" & "MacKeeper" were file in Safari's History folder. Nothing else.

Any other suggestions are still appreciated.

Thanks, p...

I am also desperately looking for an answer to this. First of all let me say: Mackeeper/Zeobit IS SPAM. They have been reacting to posts on the internet claiming that its not, but YES it is SPAM and Mackeeper got my Internet rigged. I can't work with Safari anymore:

Whatever I do, often a Website with this popup opens saying "Recommemded Download - MacKeeper" blabla and you need to press ok. For instance when I watch a video on Youtube (while youtube being the ONLY website opened) my safari will freeze because the backgroup popup with "recommended download - ... " opens.

Ive tried blocking all cookies, and removing all MacKeeper files. But NOTHING helps! Ive never installed MacKeeper so theres nothing to remove. Whatever I do the Popup will come back. Please help me in finding a sollution to this. And please... DONT GET MACKEEPER. ITS A SCAM!!

Nearly: If for some reason you imagine that you need antivirus software, in spite of the fact that there are no viruses that can attack OS X, you have several options to choose from. The only one I can recommend as harmless, reliable, and not marketed using deceptive scare tactics is [ClamXav|http://www.clamxav.com>, which also happens to be freeware.

I don't think some of the people responding to this thread understand something integral to the problem we are having... we DON'T have any files because we NEVER downloaded Zeobit Mackeeper in the first place. Not by accident, not on a "trial basis", NOTHING. This is not an issue about "fully" removing a program, this is simply SPAM or Malware or whatever else you want to call losing your ability to control your computer when using Safari.

Anyway, We've localized it to a particular website called "WowHead" it's a Warcraft Wiki type of site. I used two different machines and got the same result. Just head over to that website enough times and you'll get the pop up. I'm sure you can get the pop up from other sites as well. I appreciate the help that posters to this thread have offered, but I've unfortunately come to the conclusion that no one can has an answer to this problem... no matter how much they'd like to think they do or are graciously trying to help (as in the case of the 2nd poster). But good luck, if I find anything on the interwebz, I'll repost any info here!

Have you tried "Reset Safari" - empty all cache, and a few others things? Look into the plug-in section and remove anything you do not want. Block Pop-up windows. Go to the Security settings and show cookies and delete all you do not know that you want to keep (some you likely want to keep so no good idea to clean them all away in the Reset Safari). (Just saw the thread trying to help someone else, but he installed the program.)

I tried MacKeeper on the trial basis and found it to work, but realized it was resource hog and didn't do what I thought it should. I used a small app called AppCleaner that worked for me as it removed everything having to do with this awful app from my HDD. You may have some lingering parts of the app on your HDD even though you did not download or install the app.I suggest you use some kind of app remover to search your HDD and remove any remnants of MacKeeper. You can download Onyx (a free app) from the web to help rid you of the MacKeeper app.
