Two weeks ago, I had no problems using iChat. Everything worked just fine.
But since a few days I can not connect to Jabber or AIM: I always get the same message, incorrect username or password. Connecting to Jabber, ialso get a "insecure connection" warning before the "username or password incorrect" message.
I tried:
- checking my password (jabber and aim, both were correct)
- deactivate my internal Mac OS X firewall
- Connection to the Internet via modem, not as usual with my wireless router
- reinstall ichat using pacifist
- deleting all com.apple.ichat... plist files
What can I try to get iChat working again??
I can't remember changing anything in my systm settings.
Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) 15" / 1,67 Ghz / 100GB 7200rpm / 2GB DDR2 RAM
I am having similar problems. My problems also started within the last ten days or so. When I launch iChat, it usually fails to connect to the AIM server due to a time out. I keep trying (quit and re-launch) and eventually I get connected. Once connected, it works fine. I am using AIM server login.oscar.aol.com.
I too have made no changes of any kind to my system other than Software Update. The last update I installed was Security Update 2005-009 on Nov 29
Anyone have any clues??? It appears like it's an AOL/AIM problem???
If thsi is a Netgear modem or a D-Link try rebooting the modem by cutting power to it for 10 secs. It will be forced to go through the Logging in to the ISP which may take a few minutes.
Copy and paste this into Terminal and then hit enter
/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 It will run iChat from Terminal and create a log in the Terminal Window.
IF it has about four lines of text before saying it is running the Hardware rules check you will need to run the Combo installer again. This is because the Appand the OS will not match
Hi, and thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, no....
I'm on a LAN that is connected to the Net via a Netopia T-1 Router connecting to a full T-1 that in turn is connected directly upstream to the Net.
Hi Regal909,
If thsi is a Netgear modem or a D-Link try rebooting
the modem by cutting power to it for 10 secs. It
will be forced to go through the Logging in to the
ISP which may take a few minutes.
I also tried the AIM software from aim.com and got the same error message. So probably iChat is installed right and the error is somewhere in my system settings?
If UPnP try turning this on and Off a few times (this works for some some Netgears with the newest frimware update)
Also try this alternative login server
login.glogin.messaging.com This has to changed in iChat > Prefernces > Accounts > Server settings fro the account in question.
