home sharing not activated error 5599

tskarzin's was the first response that made sense to me!

Here's what I did...

two apple ids… normal_apple_id@example.com and household@example.com

iTunes > Account > Sign In > normal_apple_id@example.com

iTunes > Account > Authorizations > Authorize this computer > normal_apple_id@example.com

iTunes > Account > Authorizations > Authorize this computer > household@example.com

iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing > household@example.com
The above worked for me, since BOTH accounts must have the computer authorized.

Also, if you're using two-factor on the account and a very old iTunes, you must concatenate the two factor code onto the password as you enter...

***FIXED MY ERROR***

I was getting the same error and then "Authorized" my computer in iTunes and then the error went away.

To Authorize PC...

1.) Open iTunes

2.) Hover or click "Account"

3.) Click "Authorizations" then click "Authorize This Computer..."

4.) After successfuly doing that, I was able to share my media libraries on my Apple TV.

I solved the 5599 error by simply authorizing itunes under the account menu authorizations, authorize this computer.

Then I was able to turn on Home Sharing

So, I called Apple Support, and after a LONG time on hold, we found that I needed to "Authorize this computer." That's all it was.

In iTunes, go to the "Account" tab and select "Authorize this computer."

That's it. That's all I needed to do to get rid of that 5599 error.

Thanks to everyone. I had to de-authorize all my computers and then reauthorize for both the regular apple ID each user uses (my wife and me) and the ID used for home sharing, which is different from my iCloud. Amazing Apple doesn't have a good explanation anywhere that I've found.

go to itunes

go to Account on top menu bar

Sign in (even if you think you are already signed in)

The problem is that you need to be signed in to itunes store for Home Sharing to activate

I got error 5599 when I already had the max five other computers associated with my Apple ID for iTunes. Go to iTunes, Account, to deactivate other computers and activate your current computer.

if you are getting error 5599 its because your device isn't authorized yet. You can authorize up to 5 devices. Under the account tab select authorize and this computer, once finished you can then enable the home sharing.

I had his error too, I went into account and authorized the computer. Worked just fine after that.

You have to first authorize the computer under the account menu in iTunes. I'm surprised Apple doesn't have a place where they tell people this.

I know this is from a really really long time ago but I just ran into the error and fixed it for myself. I had to authorize my device and that fixed the whole issue.

This response is bit late but I got the same error after upgrading to iTunes 12.7 - I figured out that if you goto authorise iTunes first with the account you are using for home sharing then enabling home sharing afterwards then all will be fine in the  eco system 😉.

I can't believe that this original thread was started 6 1/2 years ago and there is not a single answer to the problem on here! I am still having this problem
