home sharing not activated error 5599

cant login/activate home sharing. get this error message:
Home Sharing could not be activated because an error occurred(5599)
home sharing worked last time I logged in.

macpro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

tskarzin's was the first response that made sense to me!

Here's what I did...

two apple ids… normal_apple_id@example.com and household@example.com

iTunes > Account > Sign In > normal_apple_id@example.com

iTunes > Account > Authorizations > Authorize this computer > normal_apple_id@example.com

iTunes > Account > Authorizations > Authorize this computer > household@example.com

iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing > household@example.com
The above worked for me, since BOTH accounts must have the computer authorized.

Also, if you're using two-factor on the account and a very old iTunes, you must concatenate the two factor code onto the password as you enter...

I have been having the same exact issue while trying to turn on home sharing on my itunes.

If anyone can help resolve this 5599 error it would be highly appreciated.

So frustrated right now. 4:00 in the morning, I finally gave up. Same problem as you guys. Used to work great, with no problems, until I updated to the latest iTunes and updated my iPhone's and iPad to 4.3. Any solutions would be appreciated.

several hours ago home sharing was working fine. I had updated my iphone 3gs to iOS 4.3. tried home sharing on the iphone and that was ok. turned off home sharing. then tried to turn on home sharing several hours later but no activation.

Same problem here (i am using a MacBook Pro on OSX 10.6.6).

Cannot activate iTunes home sharing (error 5599).

Any solutions?

home sharing is activated. launched back to my mac to see if that was ok, it was.
is there a reason for this madness? the earth is very close to the moon and I am far from satisfied.

Happening for me too.

Brand new MacBook Pro running Snow Leop. 10.6.8

I'll have to go try on the old iMac that I just updated the OS and itunes on....

Will report back.

Same issue - neither my iTunes or AppleTV 2 can create or connect to a Home Share. Error 5599 in iTunes
