10.6.7 Freezes when attempting to run iTunes 10.2.1

I have just updated to 10.6.7 all Apps (e.g. Mail, Safari, Parallels) tried so far work fine except iTunes. Every time I run iTunes 10.2.1 I get as far as the window displaying correctly then within 20secs the machine freezes and is unresponsive to anything other than a forced shutdown via the power button. I have fixed disk permissions with the same result.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any suggestions as to a fix?

Dude, i'm so having similar problems, ive never had any locking up or disk corruption isses with OSX for years until 10.6.7, i'm using itunes 10.2.2 so dont think thats related this time.

I too run an IT company and I'm also DJ so use my 2009 MBP 13 inch heavily during Gigs, and having it lock up with audio paues is totally foooked up...

While using the following software i get 1 or 2 second pauses while the MBP is locked up.

Ableton Live 8.1.3

Traktor Scratch Pro 1.2.4

Traktor Scratch Pro 2.0.1

Similar to you i've had to do a full repair on my main HD because of corruption, so i replaced it and did a full restore from Time Machine, but am still having the same locking up issues.

I also had the MBP looked at under the Apple Warrantly as i thought the mainboard was failing, but they found no problems.

Being in IT for over 12 years now, my gut feeling is that the 10.6.7 update is causing the problems.

Apple please help....

I can safely say that there must be a bug in 10.6.7 as TWICE now it has corrupted my 2009 24" iMac. Last time I took it to the Apple Store and had to accept a wiped machine and a reinstall of 10.6.4. I thought I'd give it a try tonight from the Combo Update (from 10.6.5) and sure enough the FORCED SHUTDOWN screen has returned. NOT HAPPY AT ALL. On 2nd power cycle system halted a blue screen (btwn Apple screen & desktop wallpaper). I wasn't even using iTunes nor a MacBook Air. Can't imagine Apple wouldn't know about this problem already. I should have trusted my gut and only updated to 10.6.6. I need the Mac App Store and it isn't on 10.6.5, but now I have to wipe & reinstall. Hoping I can get in with Safe Boot & save soft files. REALLY ****** APPLE!!!!!

***UPDATE*** I managed to get 10.6.7 working. I followed the SAFE BOOT procedure instructions, and while I cannot be certain, the SAFE BOOT process may have cleared a CACHE file which needed to be cleared in order for the software update (I used the Combo Update from 10.6.5 to 10.6.7) to work properly. Upon rebooting normally from that point the unit seems to be working properly. The return of the grey forced shutdown screen immediately following "successful installation" of 10.6.7 really upset me. Glad it's working now.

I have the 13" 1.86, 2gb, 128gb ssd version. It came with 10.6.5 and I upgraded fine to 10.6.6. Have not found any need until this week to possibly need 10.6.7. Don't use itunes on this mac much, so haven't upgraded it either.

The issue I'm wondering about is I can't download and run the trial of aperture 3 from the aperture download site. Verified the sha1 key is valid (needed to turn of SPI on the router firewall). Don't want to buy the reasonably priced full version from the store until I know it will run and install.

So I'm wondering if the issue with running the d/l of the aperture 3 30 day trial is related to 10.6.6 still being the OS?

Overall the air works great, but have a squeaky keyboard, which is odd, since my 2006 old dell inspiron 1.6ghz duo core still has a fine keyboard with similar usage. Anyone else have keyboard (space bar) issues with their MBA? I don't mind, or miss a lighted keyboard at all.

Ok, it's also on a MacBook Pro 2011 i7. I'm running 10.6.7 and my iTunes 10.2.1 launch froze the entire computer. While I was doing other things after about 5 minutes the computer became responsive again on its own and its working again.

AFAIK, Apple has only released that supplemental update for MacBook Airs. Did they not fix this for MacBook Pros in 10.6.7? I can't go to 10.6.8 because of all the bugs in that version. Apple?!

I guess I'm just going to try and restart this thing a couple of times, run repairs and update to the latest iTunes 10.4 and pray that doesn't catch my computer on fire.

Does anyone know if this was all fixed with 10.6.8 for iTunes on other hardware aside from the Airs?

I hate to break the bad news to everyone, but this problem is happening on the 27" iMacs, too. The threads go back to before 2008 on a variety of laptops and iMacs. Believe when I tell you, I've done everything except physically dismantle the machine, and the problem persists. I don't have to do anything but open iTunes, and my iMac i5 4 gig RAM 1TB 27" iMac becomes a paperweight. I'm supposed to hear from the engineers today or tomorrow. Let's see what happens next.
