10.6.7 Freezes when attempting to run iTunes 10.2.1

I have just updated to 10.6.7 all Apps (e.g. Mail, Safari, Parallels) tried so far work fine except iTunes. Every time I run iTunes 10.2.1 I get as far as the window displaying correctly then within 20secs the machine freezes and is unresponsive to anything other than a forced shutdown via the power button. I have fixed disk permissions with the same result.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any suggestions as to a fix?

I have the exact same issue, tried reinstalling iTunes. I'm hearing more people with a new Macbook Air have this problem.

I have the same issue on my MBA. I could create a dev account, but the point of having a Mac is to have things just work.

Everyone also seems to have the same configuration: Macbook Air 13, 256 gb, 2.13. I also had success just reverting back to 10.6.6.

Same issue, I use a MBA 13" 1.86 2Gb.

Interestingly enough, it happened only once for me. I manually shut down the Air, booted again and now it doesn't seem to crash on iTunes anymore. Never happened before the update as well.

Thanks for this man, I did a manual shutdown without firing up iTunes, and when I next booted, it ran perfectly. Big of a weird bug though...

Wow, that is working for me so far as well. Reloaded itunes 4 times without a freeze!

I am having the exact same issue. I am running a new 13" MacBook Air - 2.13 GHz, 4GB RAM, 256 GB Flash Drive. Same issue with iTunes. It worked perfectly before the update - now with OS 10.6.7, the whole system freezes up when I open iTunes. Only solution is to power down and back up. All other programs work perfectly, at least so far. I hope you're listening Apple! Sure sounds like a nasty bug to me. Good thing I have Sonos for my music, or I'd be a very unhappy camper!

Same problem here with iTunes. Freezing every time. Also new MBA but 128 flash drive, not 256. Never froze before this.

Same problem.

Updated to 10.6.7 an hour or so ago and the entire system commits Seppuku when I try to open up iTunes. I've never had this problem when I was on 10.6.6.

So the second restart fixes the problem. Restart after installing 10.6.7 and restart again fixes what's ailing iTunes. Pass that along with a bug report to Apple.

I had the same problem. I can confirm you can make it go away by starting the machine, not run iTunes, and then shutting down the machine normally (Apple menu -> Shut down...). After that I can open iTunes again without freezing the machine.

Update! There is a very simple fix. Power up and do NOT run iTunes. Then perform a complete shut down. (Apple menu & Shut down) -Then power back up. The problem with iTunes is gone, at least for now. I am listening to music as I type. This is a very strange bug indeed. I'm sure when Apple catches wind of it, they'll issue an update with a fix. Frankly, I'd rather have the 10.6.7 security updates than the ability to play iTunes - but even better now that it's fixed!

From the looks of all the posts, it seems it's a MacBook Air related issue with iTunes. I can't test it myself at the moment, as my External Hardrive is currently disconnected.
