Printing issues 10.6.7

I have anomalous font issues since installing 10.6.7.

Fonts render correctly with InDesign, but printing from Word 12.2.8 or Pages 4.0.5 gives incorrect rendering with some fonts. I am trying Times Roman, Arial, Myriad pro and Minion Pro, all OpenType.

Minion Pro does not render correctly. It look good if I preview the print as PDF in Preview.

Printer HP LJ1200.

What worked for me with OpenType fonts and MAY also work with Type 1 Postscript fonts is to convert them to TrueType if you have a relatively small number of them present. I posted some suggestions for how to do that in the "main" thread on the problem here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13323072

This solution works for us, but if you have a large number of fonts or large number of affected workstations running OS X 10.6.7, your milage may vary.

I would agree with your observation about TrueType degrading the font somewhat. With the way our users are using the fonts in question, it seems like a workable solution for US. We prefer this route to downgrading systems to OS X 10.6.6 and don’t know when Apple will be offering a fix. We plan to go back to OpenType once Apple does fix the problem.

I have been downloading music scores from wikifonia, but can no longer print the noteheads after upgrading from 10.6.5 to 10.6.7. Mac helpline suggested it was a driver problem (using Gutenprint v5.2.3 on an ageing deskjet 840c), and as no other driver is available I'm glad to see it may be 10.6.7.

In trying to solve this problem I found also that coloured text will not print - the result is blank, not even default black. However I rarely print colour, so don't know when this problem began.

have a look at http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=6&m=323357 (that's the music program Finale's problem with 10.6.7). The suggested solution worked at least to some extent for me (I have note-heads again in lilypond-book). You might also like to follow the Lilypond discussions on this at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/ (search for osx 10.6.7).

Good luck,

Hi - We have the same problem printing from VW 2011 onto Canon imageprograf ipf710 - Polish Fonts break up completely - we used to have a get around by printing to .pdf then printing from the pdf - now the fonts are falling apart on that as well. I've got onto both Canon and Vectorworks and they're scratching their heads at the moment. HELPPPPP!

only workaround at the moment is to downgrade to 10.6.6.

Since there has not been an official response from Apple on this issue, I would recommend to everyone to just downgrade. With 10.6 it is a relatively easy matter compared to previous OS and you will be rewarded with a working system once more.

But please file a bug report with Apple.

I expect there will be a fix, but nothing too quick as this has not made front page news on many of the Mac sites and the problem does not affect the vast majority of iTunes, browsing, word processing users. *The lack of response from Apple makes a mockery of any claim to be business orientated*.

After Upgrading to 10.6.7, I had problem with all text editor, Word,
Page, Quark .. many old font ( FUTURA) and others not displaying the (
dot ) at the end of a phrase and some other symbols, all was working
fine with 10.6.6.
I used FontXchange (1 month trial) from FontGear Inc, to transform the
problem font (Bitmap and PostScript Type 1) to Open Type (.otf)
I removed all old font with FontDoctor.
ALL NOWS WORK AGAIN in 10.6.7, no problem with printing or pdf
all font are accessible as before.
