Upgraded to 10.6.7 and wifi problem is back

I am having the same problem! I even went as far as replacing the airport card. Then I reinstalled the snow leopard disc that I have and it worked fine, with the old card(i swapped back out and returned new one). Then like a ditz, i did a software update. I can just do the same thing again but I am worried my imovie 11 may not work on the older snow leopard. This is such a pain in the butt. I have to back up my comp every time before I reinstall the OS. They really need to fix this....

What signal strength are you guys seeing the wireless router at ? (Press the Option key and click on AirPort Menu Extra and look at the RSSI number). A number between -30 and -75 is usually good.

Also keep a ping going to the router and a ping going to an external site.
eg: Launch Terminal and type:
ping www.google.com

Launch another terminal window and type:
ping x.x.x.x
(where x.x.x.x is the wireless router IP address. )

When your connectivity drop's look if both the pings start giving error's or if any one of them still continues.

Does the AirPort Menu Extra grey out when you notice the connection drop ?

Same issue. Post 10.6.7 upgrade my wi-fi connection to my time capsule goes in and out for no reason. In Chrome I normally get unable to resolve error message when I try to hit a site. Some how turning off and on the airport seems to correct it till next time. I'm going to try to connect to my other wireless network to see it's related to just my N network.

This is my situation.

Mine is a 15inch Macbook Pro(updated to 10.6.7) 2010 model with Broadcom BCM43xx chipset. After the recent updates(10.6.5 onwards) my WIFI connection is giving me problems.

1. Sometimes wifi does not connect.
2. Sometimes the connection becomes very slow.
3. Sometimes web pages don't load at all.

I can guarantee this is a problem of the updates. None of the other devices(iPhone, Nexus S, Dell XPS and various others) have any such problems using the same WIFI network.

My other friend has a 13inch Macbook Pro and he too is facing similar issues.

Does anyone have any solution to this?

@Apple - Please solve this problem. This is extremely frustrating.

The problems I face are totally random.
Turning Aiport ON and OFF does not solve the issue.
WIFI RSSI is -64


I'm willing to take logs and provide any kind of input. Just let me know.

I am having the same problem i know it NOT the router as it only appeared on my MBP and MBA after 10.6.7 update. Is it me or are Apple now suffering the same QC issues Vista???

Me too. My MBP connects to an AE bridge which connects to an AE base station connected by ethernet to cable modem. Everything was fine until 10.6.7, now my airport signal shows full strength but internet connectivity is almost nothing. Turning airport card on and off doesn't help but rebooting the MBP does get back to full strength for awhile. Then you have to reboot again. There was no problem on 10.6.6.

The same happens to me in my iMac, the wifi worked perfectly in 10.6.6, now it comes and goes with no reason. Desperate to find a solution or downgrade to 10.6.6. Does anybody know if this is possible and how to do it?

Maybe all of could try some fixes.

1. First try to Reset Your Pram to see if that helps.

2. If step one doesn't work then try the fixes in the blog post How I fixed my dropping wireless Airport connection problem in Snow Leopard to see if any of those hints work.

3. Open System Preferences->Network pane and in your Airport settings turn off your Airport card! Then look at the top of the Network pane for the "Location" drop-down. Use that to create a new 'Custom Location', using any title of your choice. Then at the bottom right-hand of the Network pane click on the word 'Apply' to save your new Location. Then rejoin your wireless network.

If non of these fixes happen take the Mac in to be repaired. Good Luck.

Try.. Delete "-" Airport service from system preferences/network, and then recreate "+" it. The restart computer.

I am also having problems with wifi since upgrading to 10.6.7 running on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (bought in September). Reset my PRAM but that didn't help. I am loosing wifi in rooms of my house where I have always had a strong signal.

Wifi seems fine as my iPhone and Dell laptop have no issues, in the same locations. Router is NETGEAR DG834GT.

I found a work around for 10.6.5 and should work for 10.6.7. Well at least for your router at home.
Create a new network profile eg. Home.

Copy settings your have from the advance in your automatic wifi settings.
Change to the Home profile. Manually input your IP eg. 192.168.0.23 ( this should be copied from your automatic profile settings) Similarly copy the submask which should be 255.255.255.0 and then enter your DNS settings.

Change profile to Home and apply and you are good to go. I have had no dropped connections after that.

However, when you travel or go to another area with your laptop you have to change back to automatic or your will not be able to connect to WIFI at hotspots or at work.

Upgraded from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 on saturday 26th March without any issues.
Today monday - all over sudden - wifi connection does not work anymore - authorization failed - however all other devices still working in my wifi lan.

Having a dual boot system on my MBP (2 disks :-); i booted the old 10.6.6 and wifi is working without any issues. Did also reapply the 10.6.7 combo update but still the same problem with 10.6.7 - cannot connect anymore.

Tried also all of the hints given in this posts - but all of them not working with 10.6.7.

Has anyone any other idea or solution available ?

I had a similar problem when I first upgraded. I also own a 2WIRE. I changed my network security to WPA Personal, not WPA2 which I think is the default. I hope this helps.
