That works great!
Yippie! Works like a charm. Used a lot of hours to figure this one out, but you guys did it!
Thanks!
A lot of my sidebar items got stuck when IT moved us to a new, shared server, thus we lost the old paths. I couldn't even click on them or right-click them! The only way I could get them to go away permanently was to hold the command key down while moving them, and I only figured that out today by finding this thread!
Thanks everyone!
Thank you wayanlaurie!! I had the same problem and using the command key was the only solution.
unfortuntely this feature gets disabled if the item the alias in your sidebar points to gets deleted - i like not accidentally deleting sidebar items through dragging, but don't see why control clicking should get disabled sometimes...
Ah, that explains it! Thanks so much - this was driving me nuts.
This works well, BUT be aware it deletes ALL the things you may have set up in sidebar, so best to take a note BEFORE you delete "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" so you can set it up again the way you like.
It would be nice if there was a way just to delete the one "dead" object, but Barney is a star for showing how to at least clean things up.
Hey tnks, nice trick!
I was really angry cause I had the same problem but now I think
apple have implemented a nice poka yoke form to do it xD 😁
That worked for me. Thanks!
By the way the item that I was trying to remove was ponting to a folder which did not exist any more.
That did the trick for me either. Thx!

Thanks dgknc,
Why isn't this in Apple Support??
The stubborn sidebar items were driving me crazy.
cheers.
Yup (driving people nuts).
sweet! you just answer my problem! THANKS!!!
there is no need to delete com.apple.sidebar and reboot/logoff..
left-click the item to delete and move it to trash while pressing cmd-key
.
Removing the plist is for when it gets stuck, which happens if the original item is deleted prior to removing it from the sidebar. The system hangs up a little if you click on those items.
You don't need to drag the item to the trash. You only have to drag it off the sidebar, just like Dock items.
