muy fácil very easy, I'm grateful!
The Command or the Command + Option key wasn't doing it for me but deleting the .plist worked. Thanks.
Hey all,
I've been having this issue for so long, that I've started tinkering around as well. All your suggestions have been great, but to no avail on my system. Just to be clear, I'm on an older mac, now 5 years old. Although it is old, it is running the most up-to-date OS, and is running like it was right out of the box. I found a potential solution. After dragging the folder / file from the sidebar, it doesn't immediately disappear. After dragging the file from the sidebar, all that must be done is hit Cmd-Opt-Esc, to open up the Force Quit Applications dialog, (it is also accessible from the apple menu) and select Finder, then hit 'Relaunch'. This solution worked for me, I hope it works for some of you.
I have 2 Mac Mini's - named MAC-MINI-ND and MAC-MINI-PD
When I originally connected "PD" to "ND"... PD was named "mac-mini-pd".
I later renamed mac-mini-pd to MAC-MINI-PD.
Now... I have 2 entries on the sidebar for MAC-MINI-ND.
MAC-MINI-PD and mac-mini-pd. Both connect to the same computer.
Except... MAC-MINI-PD shows a "Share Screen" and "Disconnect" options near top-right of Finder
wherase mac-mini-pd only shows "disconnect".
Selecting "Disconnect" does disconnect the computer but does not remove it from the sidebar.
Instead. A "Connect As" appears - where "Disconnect" use to be.
If I select the "Connect As" option... without entering a User Name / Password... and just select "Cancel"
I item list refreshes and displays the real contents of target computer - for a couple seconds - then disconnects.
How do I removed the computer "mac-mini-pd" from the sidebar but keep "MAC-MINI-PD" on the sidebar.
Dragging it to the desktop does nothing.
The only options available (right-click) are "Open in New Tab" and "Get Info".
Open a view to empty directory in finder.
Click-Command-Drag the old connection from side bar into empty directory
As you drag it you will see and X below the item being dragged. -You are doing it right-
As soon as you are in the file browsing window the file disappears from your side bar.
fast and easy, after trying everything else
Except;
I accidentally did this today ... and now I can no longer drag an external drive BACK onto the sidebar ... it's like it's forever marked as "user said not to show this, so no matter what he says now, don't do it!" ... I will try resetting PRAM which I saw on another similar thread and see if that makes it able to be dragged back on.
I allready tried unmounting, remounting, resetting and cursing.
You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
Thanks, Barney-15E, this did it for me as well. Though not all the time, surprisingly. Sometimes I have to drag the folder (with it's dust cloud) and keeping holding it at least 3 seconds before it gets disposed... otherwise the useless link goes right back to the sidebar. (OSX 10.6.8)
