Can't remove items from sidebar

Since I updated to 10.6.7, when I try to take a folder or file off the sidebar that I've put on there (either before or after the update), it won't go. It used to disappear in a puff of smoke; now it just pops back to where it was on the sidebar. Is that a bug in 10.6.7?

That took forever.

First I had to restore the doc (an rtf) from trash, even though there was an identical doc in my folders.

Click (right or left) with command or option did not work.

Only command drag worked. (Or was that option drag?)

1) Why isn't this in apple support?

2) Isn't there a better way? Like, creating a step to edit the sidebar, so you won't make items disappear you don't want to? Or allowing a click to produce a menu?

Almost as bad as trying to find the stickies database. (Another question: why is a hidden library not visible when you take the extra step of making invisible files visible in finder? Why isn't the Finder- command (or is it option?) Go function on Finder help if you search invisible or hidden files or library?

Why does Apple rely on all this free labor?

Hi,

I just moved from 10.4.11 to 10.6.8 and encountered this problem. This discussion solved it for me. I'd liketo give the "This solved my question" to the group.

I'm finding that when it comes to 'Help' in almost all aplications—not just Apple's— if I start by putting my question or some key words into a google search, I'll arrive at an answer sooner. Sometimes it will be in a company's support site, as it was in this case (see the search results that I got by entering "To remove, and rearrange items in the sidebar mac os 10.6.8". I picked the apple discussion group in the case of these search results. But 30 percent of the time now, for me, there are any number of other sites that will give me a quick solution. Let me qualify that by saying I love the Apple support groups and I've resolved many problems from their highly qualified users.

I had a similar problem, with a file i deleted before noticing i accidentally put it in the sidebar. It was driving me nuts because I was unable to simply delete it by right-clicking (the only option was 'open sidebar preferences'), but I managed to solve this by command-dragging it out of the sidebar (immediately showing the old 'puff-cloud' icon).

Just wanted to leave some feedback in this thread, as I found the solution here but my problem was a bit more specific, so hopefully this will help someone with the same kind of problem 😉

I've been trying all of the above tricks save the one that totally resets the sidebar - I want to leave most of the folders in there. I still have one rogue folder that simply won't go using any of the other methods. I think the prob is that I've actually deleted the original folder, so only the alias remains.

Can it be removed? Anybody?

Here is how I resolved this annoying problem:

Went to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and unchecked the Parent Folder of the folder that I couldn't remove and then checked it back and wuala it was gone. Notice that the folder you'll be trying to remove won't appear in the sidebar preferences, so that's why you need to uncheck whatever the parent folder is in the hierarchy.

Cheers

John
