Problem with m3u files and Quicktime

Hello:

I have made one update with Quicktime software (version 7.6.9 1680.9). The problem is that Quicktime player reproduces mp3 files but when I try to play m3u files the sound is very bad. It sounds like gargling.

For example: This files play ok:

http://www.telefonica.net/web2/sevarra/Sarabande.mp3

It plays ok when the previous link is introduced as URL address in Quicktime player, but the corresponding m3u files sounds like gargling

http://www.telefonica.net/web2/sevarra/list0.m3u

I think there a problem with m3u files and Quicktime.

Tank you very much and best regards.

Jacumba, you have not explained it properly. When you click in the links are they reproduced by Quicktime player o with another player? Are you using XP Pro? For your information, when I play this links with WMP they work fine. The problem arise ONLY with Quicktime player (versions older that 7.6) and perhaps running in XP Pro.

The user "b noir" and me (in two different computers running in XP Pro) have replicate the same problem. It would be very strange that the three computers would have the same problem, wouldn't it?

Best regards.

Yes it would be strange for 3 computers to have the same problem. Sorry when reading your post I apparently wasn't understanding it.
When I would click on the first link the file would open and play fine with QT, the second link would open and play fine with WMP.

When I copied and pasted the URL from the second link into QT Player I noticed the distortion. As the file was playing I clicked on the Window menu to Show AV Controls. I moved the slider all the way to the left in Playback Speed and the distortion stopped and the file played fine, when moving it to the right the distortion starts, same as you did.
So I don't see this as a bug but a QT setting

I created a movie in iMovie HD 6.0.4 and converted the iMovie project to (.MOV) format. Uploaded to "Safari Montage"(Dedicated dedicated video streaming server).

Computer Specs: Windows XP SP3, QuickTime 7.6.9 / Internet Explorer 7 and 8

Problem: When I play and (.MOV) video through "Internet Explorer, Quicktime Player Plug-in 7.6.9, I get distorted Audio(Robotic/gargling/dalekish)

Workaround: Uninstall QuickTime 7.6.9, Reboot and Install Quicktime 7.6.4 and Voila!, No more distorted Audio(Robotic/gargling/dalekish)

I think there a problem with m3u files and Quicktime.

Not a Windows user myself, but in following this topic, doing a bit of research, and performing a few tests of my own, my guess would be the QT is no longer the media handler for M3U files. Instead, both Mac and Windows QT handlers are passing the files off to other applications. It would seem there is only a problem when you force the QT player to try and play the files. Why not simply use a reference file as a playlist which the QT player is still only too happy to play for you. As a test, I created this List_1.mov reference file which plays fine in the QT player on my Mac without having to be passed off to iTunes for playback. Can one of you download the test file (about 250 K), see if it works in your Windows QT player, and then post back?
