2011 Macbook Pro Fan noise?

I'm not having the exact same issue, but it's similar. The fans will kick in, in a very high RPM rate and it's very loud. However, this subsides. I don't think that if it's on all the time, that's it's normal. I am only using my computer right now for basic computing and it still kicks in. I don't want to even think about what would happen if I played a game on it. I wouldn't be able to hear the audio of the game!

I'm getting the same exact problem, almost instantly the fan comes on and is EXTREMELY LOUD for a MBP ... Hope this isnt a permanent problem! Would have to agree with Nori ... its bugging the ** out of me too!

I have a new 2011 Model as well 17'' macbook Pro i7. The fans are super load, and on all the time. I tried everything to reduce the heat. My 2010 didn't do this. It feels like something is wrong. I have had a few MacBooks in the past and none of them made this much noise. If i check emails, play a game they begin making that strong fan noise. I made an appointment to get it looked at and i hope it can be fixed or replaced. I have another problem with the graphics already and home sharing. Im scared to run major programs on it. I feel it will over heat. Your not alone. I'll repost what happens when i get it looked at.

This the new macbook pro 2011 now with the quad core cpu. This a desktop replacement and stronger laptap if you are just doin normal stuff the fan default should be only at 1900 rpm and quit.
Now if you are doing hevy stuff like flash movie, game with flash, is going to make your cpu hot and also fan will make noise cause is cooling the cpu and fan will rise up 1900 to 6000 rpm after your done doing hevy stuff your macbook pro will cool and fan will slowly down and will be quit fan again.
This cpu is sandy bridge some people ivy bridge cpu is lot cooler hope this answer help you.

Is the fan making noise all the time even if you are just doing small stuff like surfing net or email in this case you should to to apple and tell them whats happening. Fan should only make noise when your doing hevy stuff like movie with flash intensive hevy gaming flash any hevy load work your fan will make noise reason for that is to make the cpu cooler. As soon your done doing hevy stuff your fan should be quit slowly until cpu is cool, but if your fan is always making noise with small stuff load in mac then there is a problem call apple.

hola brothers... mi macbook pro 15'' i5 tambien tiene el mismo problema con los ventiladores. pero cuando inclino la macbook pro hacia adelante mas o menos unos 20 grados. No suena.o el sonido de los ventiladores disminuye.

I have to incline the machine and the fan sound stops or at least it will decrease. but its not the correct funcionality. :S

Same here. My Macbook Pro 17" 2011 has far greater fan noise if I play say a streaming movies on Netflix compared to my far quieter earlier 2008 MBP 17". Any suggestions?

Hope Apple will soon have a fix for this annoying issue, there really should be no excuse w this flaw, given such an expensive price tag!

I have the same issue. A quiet fan is on about 90% of the time, even if I'm just surfing the internet. I do find it very annoying and am tempted to pull out my old G4. I'd rather have a slower computer than one that has a constant hum. Also, I streamed video and the fan went into overdrive. My computer was burning up. This does not seem normal and most definitely did not happen with my G4. Help Apple!

The fans are always running. THEY NEVER SHUT OFF. This being said though they should run around 2000 rpm at low and shouldn't be loud. I would suggest getting the istat widget to see and this will tell you if they are running normally or fast.

I am on my third MBP 15". The first one was replaced because of a bad graphics card, the second was replaced because it would not charge up and now this one is making a grinding fan noise. I am familiar with the high rpm noise but this is more like a bad vibration or grinding as it is audible when the fan is on at a lower rpm. Is this something they can pop the case off and reseat the fan? Honestly I don't want to go through the hassel of yet another one. I may just return this and wait a while for them to get their quality control back to par.

Mine grinds too, and it's from 2008 (2.8 core 2 duo). I took it to the genius bar, and they agreed it was a hardware problem, said they'd need it for a week and a half to repair. I work from this machine though, and couldn't part with it for that long. It's been a few years and the grinding is worse, to the point where I want a different machine.

I too have a brand new out of box Mac Book Pro, 2011, i7, 15".

I got it for work and hadn't really had a chance to put anything on it. The most powerful thing running on it is VM ware, and my VM is tiny.

All points aside, this last weekend I had it on my desk, plugged in and just doing some google docs on it. 2 Chrome tabs and an Excel document open and the fan was making this high RMP and then low RPM, with almost a "grinding" noise too. I have worked on quite a number of computers to know that anytime you hear something "grinding" for the fan, its not good.

This past Monday I took it to my nearest Apple store and they were unable to replicate the issue in store. It was pretty loud in the store. But asked to keep it over night for testing. I figured they would give it back to me the next day and wish me the best of luck, and tell me im over reacting. But they actually called and told me they had replaced BOTH of the fans in the computer. I only remember the sound coming from the left side of the laptop, strange.

So either my macs fans were defective from the start or its a known issue with this batch off the line.

I would take your mac into the Apple Store and see what they say. Ask to leave it with them over night and they might have to replace them. They didn't have the parts in right away so I had to live with out it for a few days.

Let me know what you find out. Your post made me take my mac in.

Same problem here with MBP 13" 2011. It's quite 90% of the time in use. I'm using it for internet surfing and MS office work. The noise starts at random, but when any of my office products doesn't respond (unfortunately quite often in Mac), it sure starts. Very loud for a brand new computer with no heavy use. Since it's not always like that and I can guarantee to reproduce this in front of them, I don't want to take it to the apple shop. I'm a bit disappointed. I didn't have this loud fan noise with my old macbook 13" or MBP 15" with core duo.
