iPhone 4, iOS 4
I agree. So far they have been great with all of the "tinfoil hat" remedies. Whats next? Keeping a pocket full of magic crystals? What ever happened to just getting the awesome product that was marketed to us in the first place.Fix it Apple!!!
And once again...all of these posts and not one dang Apple rep cares to chime is. The silendce is deafening.
Have you heard anything more? My phone is now useless
same here i just started the same problem after i charge my iphone 100% after i just unpluged the charger and it just last for 10 minutes
my phone was doing the same, charge lasting a couple of hours, spoke to Apple and restored phone to factory settings(be sure to back up first) then start new install of phone, and maually sync contacts and mail, etc. this seems to have worked for me
Evidently it is the iPhone 4S that has the problem. I just caught an article about it on the CNN web site. It's Siri. Siri is a data hog. However, if you turn off any unneeded locatiion services and notification services, it helps. I have a True Power iV Pro iPhone backup battery pack, which I highly recommend. It really helps. The trick is to charge the iPhone and battery pack separately, as the phone charges at a faster rate than the battery pack, which prevents the battery from charging. Much better performance as to battery life.
Here's the thing. From everything I have read thus far about this ongoing problem, lot of people have supplied workarounds like, shutting things down, and adjusting setting to ACCOMDATE a piece of hardware that is basically broken. I can't speak for everyone, but I will tell you that I am sick and tired of Apple not addressing the problem...and don't throw 5.1 out there, that was a patch. I mean, how many people own these phones?
FIX THE S.O.B!!! It is absolutley ridiculous.
My 1mth old iphone 4s battery life is longer than many comments here, but the heat seems to be more severe. Previously wear it with real capdase blue transparent case. Later found little brown stains on some part of it. Now need to remove the case coz the stain turn to be dark brown spot and sometime my phone warm like an iron. Hope it wont explode :(
My wife has the old Iphone...the one I "upgraded" from. SHe has to charge her phone every other day. I'm lucky if I can make it to 5pm.
HEEELLLLOOOOO, any APPLE representatives listening out there? Ever heard of social media? Engage your customers??? Any feedback on a fix?
This forum is really sad. It underscores the problem. NO concern for the customer. Good luck with that phone we lied about.
Well, i read a few of the post and I feel sad. I have had my spanking new 1Phone for 5months now and suddenly it gets really hot and loses its charge in at most 2hours.
I followed all the instructions, finally did a factory reset and even before I had re-synced it with my data on iTunes, it became blistering hot and the error message apeared on it to cool it down (yer, sure thing!)
It actually cooled a bit since I reinstalled a select few apps, set up my email and restored my contacts, music etc.
I'm certain mine is a hardware issue, NOT a software issue, but here's the catch, I live out of Apple's regular stomping grounds.
I can get my phone to the US to be looked at, but I dont want to wait for someone traveling, organise to send it, to be told some technical crap. I can't do the back-and-forth.
I paid for the phone, never jail-broke it, never dropped it, and I want a working phone.
Anything I can do or stuff I need to package with it to send for repair/ replacement?
I am gonna guess you have tried the settings>general>reset>reset all settings, then set up as new (it will keep your data and apps) when it reboots. Then allow the battery to drain all the way until it cuts off with spinning star then charge back up to 100% pref overnight but at least an hour past 100%.
Alt option is just reset network settings. BTW I believe this is a user forum only, no Apple participation other than moderating and removing unworthy posts.

Thanks for the response. Yes...I have done all of that. I've also had my phone swapped out...twice. Both phone number one and phone number two I "upgraded" to the 5.1 software. On both occasions it improved the battery ever so slightly.
Both of those phones then had other problems. Sometimes they just wouldn't make a call. Other times they would just randomly during a call switch over to "speaker" and then I couldn't be heard...and couldn't get it off speaker. ON the third phone I did NOT upgrade to 5.1 and have not had the other issues other than very poor battery life. I keep my chareger in the car and at my office. If I had someone that could assure me that it wouldn't happen again, I would gladly try 5.1 again. But as you point out and I suspected...whatever Apple reps frequent this forum choose NOT to offer help and just want to play censor.
On both phone number one and phone number two, when I called Apple support, I heard the same thing. "Really? Your battery is draining? We haven't heard that before." I instructed them to check the Apple forum. Really sad that a company as profiable and previously reliable can sow so little concern for a problem like this.
Thanks again. Nice to know that there's at least SOMEone on the other end. Even if it's only someone in the same lifeboat.
HA yeah no problem. And I am sure no one has called them yet about any battery issues. (Other than you I mean) And they have not made many exchanges of devices due to battery issues either. Apparently all Genius's live under rocks too and dont frequent the internet apparently. Anyway in all fairness, 5.1 is still beta so some buggy issues are expected until the final I would suspect.
Totally agree with you, I have everything from apple from powerbook to all the iphones, the iphone 4S realy destroys the solid reputation apple has. Basically, I should not use the iphone then battery life is fine, what a bull *****!
