iPhone 4 heat and battery issues

My iPhone 4 for the last few days has started to get very hot in use and the battery is gone very bad. Leaving the phone on standby can see the battery drain nearly 20% in an hour. This is gone to the stage where I have to turn it off at times just to save battery during the day. It only began to happen when I updated to iOS 4.3. I updated to iOS 4.3.1 yesterday and it still has the same issues. Anyone else having the same problem?

it happened for me toolast week when itwas really hot and ive been sweating heaps while speaking on the phone for like an hour...

chances are that the power switch and volume switch let the salty moist inside the phonecausing minor shorts drawing more current than it used to, thus draining the battry and also gets quiet hot around the camera/powerswitch and alog the side were the volume switches are...

i opened it all up and realized there are no sign o water or salty stuff anywere so it must be inside the switches...

the question is how do i clean inside of the switches now...

it is usually the case when you use the phone to talk alot and eventually moist and sweat find its way throughthe speaker hole, power button o the volume buttons. it affected my lcd as well with discolouration but its all goen now and left me with the heat issu and draining the battery so fast pretty much 10% per hour.

Nope. For the most part Apple hasn't publicly addressed any of this. They put out some half-baked 5.1 update and continue to tell folks to strap on their tinfoil hats, stand on one leg, turn off anything that doesn't say "phone" on the Iphone an keep sucking it up. It's beyond sad.

I see the new IPad is coming out. Don't count on me to rush out and upgrade until I do thorough research on what's wrong with THAT expensive toy. I think Steve Jobs is giggling in his coffin.

I love you all so much. Knowing that others have been experiencing this issue, too, makes me feel a tiny bit better. BUT, I'm still incredibly angry. My iPhone 4S, which I guess I've had for almost six months, lasted literally two hours today. It also gets incredibly warm to the point that it's uncomfortable to hold it. I don't know what the heck happened, but this problem just started today. I've pretty much tried everything: restoring it then using my back up, restoring it then using it as a new phone, removing e-mail accounts, turning off location services, turning off notifications, turning off WiFi... but nothing has worked. I guess my next step will be to contact Apple, but I foresee unhappy results since they have not been very helpful in the past.

Let me save you some time. You would be better served going out and BUYING a dozen apples (you choose the variety) and explaining your problem to them than you would the Apple "experts". The apples you buy will offer the SAME amount of useful feedback and in the end you will have a nice snack.

I went from angry, to stymied right intopure amusement. Such a shame to see a once great company fall into the category of not giveing a rat's butt about their customers.

This is a frustrating problem to be sure. I have not had my phone overheat, but I'm not on it for long periods. The problem of battery life seems to be Siri, which is a big data hog. Turn off Siri, along with any unneeded location services and notifications. Do not accept push notification offers. I use a Fastmac iV pro battery case, which really helps with the battery problem. Just make sure you charge the phone and battery case separately as the phone charges faster than the case and will just drain the charge from the case. You could also go to where you bought the phone and see if they'll give you a new one. Might not be better, but it might. Good luck.

The whole purpose of having the IPhone was to enjoy the features. Having to turn off some...or ANY.. of those features just to preserve battery seems like a terrible waste...and definite misrepresentation by Apple on the effect on any extended use. This is my third Iphone 4S in less than six months. They've sucked enough of my time. I'm waiting for a real fix...or another phone copmpany to produce something more effiecient. I understand Android has a new phone that is the bomb on extended power. Looking good.

Unfortunately I've always had Siri turned off. That was a good idea, though. And the place where I bought the phone can't help me if it's been more than a month, especially if it's anything to do with the physical aspect of the phone. They told me that Apple doesn't want anyone else messing with their products, and so the only way to get anything physical fixed is to send it in and hope they can do something about it. I may have to try the battery case you suggested. That may help reduce the amount of times I need to charge my phone throughout the day.

I've been hoping it's a software issue, since I've read about SO MANY people having this exact same problem after updating to iOS 5.1. But I'm almost starting to think that it's the battery itself. I may purchase a new battery, put it in myself, and hope that resolves it. At least if that doesn't work, I'll know it's the software!

It sounds like you are having a particularly hard time. For the future, buy from AT%T and buy their insurance policy, which never expires, unlike Apple Care. Good if phone is lost, stolen, damaged, whatever.

When I want Siri, I turn her on and off when done. Can always do same with notifications and location services. It's a little bit of trouble, but might help. Also, you are supposed to let your phone run down entirely once a month and then charge it up 100% before you use it again. Extends battery life.

Boy, that has to be aggravating as all get out. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that Apple changed its manufacturer for the iPhone. I wonder if there's a quality control problem here. At any rate, I can understand your frustration. Technology is great when it works right, but what a headache when it doesn't. I'm having problems with iCloud. The calendar on my iPhone is up-to-date, but it's not syncing with my iPad. I may start another tech query going on that issue. In the meantime, it's a beautiful day here in Rhode Island. Summer-like and sunny. I think I'll just chill out for awhile.

I am incredibly unhappy with the IPhone 4s, my battery dies within 3 hours of use, the internal battery is beyond useless. My IPhone overheats to the extent that I feel I am holding a hot potato ! I cannot believe that Apple has released a product that completely discredits their reputation of durability.

I paid for this outright, I no longer have warranty so I cannot replace my phone.

I swear by name, I will NEVER EVER EVER buy an Apple product. There is a revolution coming and it is not Apple it is HTC. Thank you for allowing to realise what I mistake I made.
