iOS 4
I suppose it's worth mentioning that we're having the same problem here, only we use a Kerio Connect mail server, not Exchange (though it's meant to behave the same way). We're pretty heavily entrenched in Apple tech, and we have a healthy mix of all flavors of iPhone as well as 1st gen iPads. This is definitely only an issue on the iPad 2.
Like everyone on this thread I have the issue only with my iPad 2. I filed a bug report on radar.apple.com. They have sent me a addin to install. If i get the same results as previous submitters of the issue, this will fix the issue. I'll updat the forum tonight with my results.
I just want to add my voice to the growing number of people with this problem. I too upgraded from iPad 1 to iPad 2. My iPhone 4 is set up exactly the same way, but it does not have this problem. When opening my iPad 2, I often receive a notification that I have thousands of invitations waiting. Going into iCal shows no invitations and everything looks fine.
The number of invitations has been growing. Recently, it was at "2,048 Invitations". Today, it is at "8,192" invitations. It's weird that I never saw any numbers in between. It merely jumped one day from 2,048, to 8,192.
Like has been said earlier.......with iOS 5 on the way....doubt any work is going to be put into fixing this bug.
If you get the "EAS Diagnostics" profile from Apple it fixes the issue. I'm not sure what is in the profile that stops the issue, but it does stop. I can email it to you if you provide your email addy.
Apple support sent me a profile to apply. The "EAS Diagnostics" profile solved the problem.
So you have to call Apple Support to get the fix?
I filled an issue on radar.apple.com and they sent me the profile in response to the issue.
I went to radar and filed as well. I did shortly thereafter recieve an email with the "ExchangeDiagnosticProfile.mobileconfig" attached. Is this what you are referring to?
If so I'd be surprised to find out that fixed your problem. That is just a config profile that enables debug log collecting on the iOS device it is installed upon.
Our board chairman is having the same issue on his IPAD2 (large number of invitations from exchange web access account). Will you please email me the EAS Diagnostics and instructions on how to install it? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

That's the profile that worked for me.
are you able to post the solution here?
I filled a bug report and Apple sent me a profile to download. They say: Send the profile attached to this message to an email account that's on your iOS device", but I'm not able to locate this profile... How can I download it?
Thanks.
You can not upload a file to the site. They will send it to you within 24 hours if you fill out a bug report.
The profile was attached to the message. All you have to do is open the message through Mail on the phone and then click on the attached file.
