I am having the same issue. Videos app did work for a bit but froze a video. Now it just goes to a black screen. I can get back to the home screen fine, but currently I cannot use videos. This needs a fix asap. I don't want to do a restore
I tried restore and still the viodeos app freezes on a black screen
I have the same issue. I have iPad 1 and 2. I bought 2 movies from iTunes and both freeze at the same spot. At that point the video app is basically a black screen of death. I tried to reset the settings which then shows the video titles again but as soon as I start watching the movies they freeze at same spot. Ironically I have some movies that I bought from a site called iPod lounge. I have had those movies on iPads and iPods and they have never frozen. I will take both iPads to an apple store and see what the genius bar says. FYI I installed the latest iPad software today but it made no difference. I must say I have never had an apple app freeze before.
I've had this happen a couple of times, very annoying.
You don't need to do a restore though, just remove video its stuck on in iTunes and re-sync, that will un-stick the app. You can then add the movie back in iTunes, re-sync and continue playing the movie.
So far for me its only happened for podcasts from the iTunes store.
I rented a movie from the iTunes store using my iPad 2. I was watching it fine for about one hour, then the screen went to black. I can click the home button and go back to the desktop, but every time I click the Videos app, blackness. I can't find the movie I rented in iTunes on my PC to deselect. After I sync, launching the Videos app says "updating content" or something similar, then ... goes to black. I'm trying not to do a complete reset, but it sounds like that is what I need to do.
Got the answer ... at least for me. Double-clicked "home" so that the bar of background apps appears. Held down "videos" app until the minus sign appeared. Deleted it, clicked home, clicked "Videos" and it worked!
I've had the same problem twice now. The solution is to use the iPad's search function (swipe right from your home screen) and search for any video you've put on your iPad. Click to play that video and voila, it's fixed.
Thank you David for the solution.... I have had my iPad2 for over a month now, and few mins back the video app simply froze showing only a black screen, though its a temp fix but ur solution was effective. Apple needs to fix this video app immediately.
Thanks David , that worked for me .
Thanks for the solution. Unfortunately, I bought my ipad to watch movies (rented from itunes store) for long internation flights. I just completed a 14 hour flight and my ipad hung on the first movie ("Office Space"). So I went the remainder of the flight without ipad movies.
A solution that actually fixes the problem would be nice. I would like to see the end of the movie.
None of the above solutions worked for me. But I was able to unfreeze the video by going to settings and clicking on Reset and then clicking on Reset All Settings. This finally worked.
Very frustrating - it froze on my daughter in the middle of a long flight.
I just bought my ipad and am having the same problem also. I purchased some TV shows from itunes ( 6 in all) . All 6 have frozen in various stages of the video then screen goes black ...I
