Apple TV homesharing keeps dropping out ...

The homesharing on my Apple TV keeps dropping off randomly.
I have a mac with wired ethernet access, and the Apple TV uses my wifi connection.
The setup was OK, and YouTube and NetFlix are fine, but the homesharing will drop off at random times (I see the message "activate homesharing on itunes" under the Computers menu option). My mac is set to never sleep, and itunes is running continuously, so I know that isn't the problem. Wifi signal strength is 80% in the Apple TV menu.
Can anyone help ?

Mac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Hi SuperSizeit,

Thanks for offering help. I have some questions: What is Apple Express and Extreme? I also don't know what SNMP means. I am using Vaio laptop running Win7, broadband cable connection with router provided by my ISP (NTT in Japan, and its been working no problems for everything else), and recent Apple TV.

Can anyone offer a reason as to why so many people are having this problem at the same time, and what is causing it? I can't take my problem directly to Apple Supoort because I am in Japan and don't speak Japanese, and Apple USA can't help me unless I live there. And anyway, by the sound of it they'll just say 'use a LAN cable to check your router'. I appreciate the help of you fellow Apple users, but am fuming about Apple's slow response here.

OK I'm in a similar boat now and am not sure where to start.

1. Qwest DSL modem

2. Airport Extreme (AEx) ethernet to DSL modem and Mac tower

3. Mac tower (my media server always running iTunes) ethernet to AEx

4. Apple TV 2 (ATV2) using WiFi

5. MacBook, iPad2, 2 iPhone 4 using WiFi and homesharing

Until the past couple of days our complete system has worked perfectly. Now we are getting dropped "iTunes not available" error messages while watching rented movies and TV shows. We have to continouly back out and into Play again to continue watching them. This happens often during a single 60-90 minute show. VERY annoying.

We are getting "iTune is currently unavailable. Try again later" or "An error occurred loading this content" messages when trying to connect to our MacBook library. I CAN connect to the Mac tower's library (hardwired to AEx).

iCloud music can't even play a single song in any playlist without the "iTune is currently unavailable. Try again later" message.

Oh well, i'm totally confused now. I thought the reason for running Apple was to avoid the technical mumbo jumbo! Anyway I have the same issue whereby i can see all my content but when I click to play anything i just get a spinning wheel. So how ridiculous is this workaround. I use my laptop and Apple Remote desktop to access my iMac (which is in the office next door) and then I play a video from the iMac and switch it to play to the Apple TV – then it works fine! Not sure what else to do but it's feeling a little steampunk at the moment. Anyone else has this exact problem
