Apple TV homesharing keeps dropping out ...

The homesharing on my Apple TV keeps dropping off randomly.
I have a mac with wired ethernet access, and the Apple TV uses my wifi connection.
The setup was OK, and YouTube and NetFlix are fine, but the homesharing will drop off at random times (I see the message "activate homesharing on itunes" under the Computers menu option). My mac is set to never sleep, and itunes is running continuously, so I know that isn't the problem. Wifi signal strength is 80% in the Apple TV menu.
Can anyone help ?

Mac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Hi Buckslip

I get this problem to. Once the connection is stuffed you get this issue even if it looks like it's reconnected again - for example after rebooting iTunes. To fix this pull the power out of the apple TV wait 3 secs and plug back in again. This normally resolves the issue until the next drop out.

Agree with other posters, this ongoing issue is most definately an apple TV or iTunes issue, not router, network or firewall and is disgusting that it has not been acknowledged let alone fixed. This happens several times weekly, sometimes daily!

If I was able to properly edit missing content in Boxee I would have thrown both my AppTV's into the bin by now.

Its frustrating reading the posts on homesharing. There are actually thousands of ATV2 users out there running iTunes on windows and Mac, that are having problems with homesharing. I have had my ATV2 about a year now, and as Steve siad its magical he was right. Then came iTunes 10,5. I have my ATV2 connected by ethernet, I have since tried WiFi to no avail. The problem is the server ( iTunes). This problem has existed for months now and Apple do nothing. Every now and then we get a post where somebody wrights this has worked for them, but they are kidding themselves, because the problem will return. I now use my Atv2 as a paperwieght, because I am tired of disabling and enabling home sharing in iTunes so it will sometimes work. I now use a software DNLA server (which I used prior to buying an Atv2) to stream my iTunes library to my TV.

I have and got it exchanged the first time. I went to the Store eplained the problem and go over all the tons of workaround we talked about. So they exchanged it hoping the new one I'll get would fair better. Didn't work, same thing with the new ATV2 that I got.

Anyway after restoring the ATV2 its been good for 2 days now. All day I played as many movies, music that I have and no home sharing drop issue.

Read a great idea on Macintouch if you have a new Extreme and an Express. Use the Airport Extreme for 802.11n mode only for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz. Using Ethernet to plug in the Express to one of the Ethernet 1GB ports of the Extreme, I configured the Express for 802.11b&g devices for wireless printers, which is the only devices I have that runs on 802.11g.

I have a second Express which I am using to Extend 802.11n 5ghz from the Extreme. Now I just need one more express to extend 802.11n 2.4ghz.
