iPhone 3GS and TomTom Car Kit - Not working following iOS4.3 updates

HI,

Anyone able to help me with this - or do we have to rely on an iOS update to fix the issue?

I am running iOS 4.3.1 (8G4) and have regularly updated all iOS updates and Software when available, phone is not unlocked or jailbroken.

I have TomTom app V1.6 installed which runs fine when the phone is standalone, but also bought the Tomtom Car kit which includes a hardware SirfStar III GPS receiver. This GPS always worked fin until the iOS4.3 update and now the car kit is nothing more than a phone holder with integrated charging - the GPS does not work at all.

When I check the connection using the Car Kit Utility (separate app) the iphone is shown as "docked" with "no GPS fix", ie the GPS in the dock is not working.

Whilst the main app does work (just), it still uses the GPS built into the phone, which is flaky at best.

Anyone else experienced this and if so anyone found a fix for it?

While I've finally managed to get my car kit back to TomTom for their "fix" I am back to the iphone in a generic vent mount for the satnav.

I actually wonder if it was working to some degree even though the tomtom kit app reported no fix.

I really don't remember the satnav being that awful when it was in the car kit? I drove to Birmingham and back yesterday like this and it was truly shocking how the GPS lost my position constantly. It lost it every once in a while in the car kit but never every 5 miles like it did yesterday, even on the motorway when I wasn't navigating much?

I've never seen my car kit working so can't comment what it was like when it did work. Anybody who has seen it working correctly was the GPS connection rock solid with absolutely no deviation? Just curious that is all?

Well I am all back working now, I've had a brand new car kit from TomTom and it works fine. Got a fix in under a minute. No charge either so very happy 🙂

The letter from TomTom does state TomTom Model: 2.1 Car Kit For Iphone V2 but when you look at the device details in the car kit tool it still reports

Model: 4UUB4

Frimware: 0.0.48

Anyway I'm happy it just works, I have upgraded TomTom to 1.7 in the meantime too, so that could well have helped fix it.

One other thing it does work just fine without pairing the bluetooth in the car kit. Although I did this first and it was working, I un-paired the bluetooth on the iphone and it still worked.

I have had the same issue, and ive tried talking with tomtom but they seem bloody useless, and was wondering if there was any bits of info you might be able to send me that might help me with them to tell them how to rectify this, as they have offered no solution .
