Hi all, I have the same problem. I am using a IPOD CLASSIC 160GB. Like all of you, I've been downloading video podcasts to my IPOD. It works fine for few days but recently, I cannot view the video podcasts on my Ipod although it had synched. I was thinking is it because I have 2000+ podcast? I quickly dismissed the idea as its too ridiculous. Maybe my software is not updated? Nope cos it updates automatically. Probably go to replace a new one to solve this problem but like Tismweinaz1 mentioned, I don't think its my Ipod hardware issue. Anyone found a solution to this?
It appears that many of us are having the same issue with lower bit rate Podcasts. Frustratingly, almost all of the recent TED podcasts are in 46 kbps, making my iPod useless. Does anyone know if this has been brought to the attention of Apple and a software fix is pending?
I have a similar problem. I was watching a TED podcast a couple of weeks ago and after it finished, my iPod Classic (120GB) would not play subsequent TED Videos or any other video that I had loaded via iTunes. What shows on the screen is a series of podcast names at the top of the screen followed by a black screen. Audio seems to work fine on the iPod and audio and video function normally on iTunes on my PC. I have done a restore and (3 hours later) ended up in the same state.
I am reluctant to go our and purchase a new iPod Classic until I feel confident that doing so will fix the problem.
My friend in the Peace Corp in Africa had a new iPod Classic delivered to me, which I am sending to him. I thought it would be so cool to pre-load it with TED talks podcasts (Video) before shipping. But as per this thread they will not play. Sad. If anyone figures this out please post soon, otherwise I will just remove them.
This is what we know for fact:
1. Ted Talks videos will not play on the Classic since the they changed the bit rate.
2. If you try to play a Ted Talks video, it will lock up the Classic so it will not play any other videos.
3. If you reset the Classic, it will play the other videos.
Don't know what it is about that bit rate and the Classic that causes this problem, but the only solution at this time is to not load or attempt to watch Ted Talks on a Classic.
I have resorted to the method mentioned above: using iTunes->Advanced->Create iPod or iPhone Version.
This converts TED talks to movies and they play on iPod Classic.
This is a slow process! And at least one TED talk (one I really wanted, natch) failed with error message both times I tried it.
Update: TED talks video podcasts frequently fail to convert with "Create iPod or iPhone Version". (MAC OSX 10.6.7, iTunes 10.2.2). May work on 2nd or 3rd try.
Same problem. Who can we contact at Apple so that they become aware of this?
Hi all, from my own experiences, I got my own conclusion that the "origin" of the problem ie the can't view the video podcasts lies with TedTalks. When I don't click on my TedTalks to (hopefully) view the video, other video podcasts works fine. But when I tried my luck to click on TedTalks video podcasts, not only does it not show any video when I open other video podcasts after closing TedTalks, the other video podcasts also show a dark screen. I am frustrated of this and have unsubscribe all video podcasts of TedTalks so that it won't sync to my Ipod Classic. My 2 cents. Hope it helps.
The thing is, the same thing happens for me with the video Diggnation podcasts. Is it possible that we could just use an older firmware update for these ipods?
I have the same problem. Video that used to play no longer does. The Create iPod Version does not work either. VERY frustrating.
I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this discussion.
You are right Allan. Sometimes I get insanely optimistic on Mondays. 😀
I'm sending them feedback now. Hopefully everyone else will too.
Fingers crossed.
Chet
