Thanks, I sent in my feedback. Although, when it is completed, they don't make it sound that promising that they'll contact us back about fixing the issue.
I happened to notice that TED talks has a normal and HD version of its podcast. first i subscribed to the hd one but it didnt work on my ipod classic. so i unsubscribed and deleted it and subscribed to the normal ted talks podcast and that one did work on my ipod... so maybe thats the issue; whether its hd or not....
No, TED HD never has loaded on my classic and the regular TED video just doesn't work now as well.
Same here. Regular TED used to play, but won't now.
All of the other video that used to work no longer does. I loaded a bunch of stuff on it about a year or so ago (maybe longer) to catch up with while I was on the road and it worked fine, but those same videos don't play. I get sound, but just a blank screen.
Is there any way we can remove the "correct answer" green logo so that it doesn't look like this is resolved? I guess it doesn't really matter if support stuff doesn't look at this forum anyway.
I synched only the 46K bit rate TEDS and none of them play. This also screws up my other videos (movies, tv shows etc). When I synch the 92 and 95 Kbit rate TEDSs, but leave out the 46K TEDs everything works fine. When both 46K and 9XK TEDS are present, if you play the 95 it works, once you start a 46 your screwed. It seems TED started compressing a few videos here and there last year, but kicked into gear and started compressing all videos this year. I assume Apple has not kept up with the video codec changes required to be flexible such that they can play both. My short term solution is to ignore 46K TEDS, and only synch 9XK. Hopefully they will correct this in a future release.
where do you find the 95k/92k? Is that the HD feeds, because I haven't been able to get those on my classic. I know that the 46k is the normal video feed that you find when searching through the itunes store power search.

Except that they play on a Touch. Sounds more like a Classic firmware issue.
46 is normal now but up until April - it was 9Xk.
i subscribed to the HD Teds and they don't work at all, only the Standard work, but only 92 or 95 bit rate. There's a bar at the top of the Podcast list which displays "Podcast", Release Date, Time, Description .. etc. Right click on the menu bar and you'll be presented with a menu of options you can add to the bar. You can select and display "Bit Rate". This will make visible the Bit rate of each TED video. When synching select those which are 92 or 95. They will play just fine, and other videos will play too. If you accidently synch a 46 your hosed. All TEDS as of around April and beyond are 46. So, only 2010 and earlier are 92/95.
Hi everyone,
The team at TED has tracked down the problem and is looking into this now. Here's the message I received from one of their support staff today in response to my enquiry earlier this month. Hopefully we'll have a solution soon! Samantha.

Subject: Contact: Problem playing or downloading a video
Hi Samantha -- We've tracked down the issue to when we launched our
new custom encoder. Apparently, early iPod Classics don't like the
video profile that we use and it's been causing the issues. We're
looking into this, and hope to be able to provide a resolution.
Warm regards,
Will

Thanks for checking with them!
Yes, thank you very much indeed, Samantha.
I would like to add however, that it is not 'just the early ipod classic', mine (160G, 6th gen) is the latest model, showing the same problem.
if a 46 kbps Ted Talk is on the iPod, it makes all other videos not work, too?
Same on my much-loved iPod Nano 3rd Generation. Coverflow has also become very patchy and pretty much useless.
If it won't run apps, it looks like Apple aren't interested in supporting it any more. Android and Qriocity will probably replace my Nano once this faffing with codecs gets too much. I've had enough of Apple's short product lifecycles and planned obsolescence.
